Guest guest
Hi, Josie, I haven't had it in a while, but I do think I rinsed it, but maybe I didn't rinse it well enough. I may try it again and rinse longer--thanks for the suggestion! I've been recently cooking the flaked kind, and like that quite a bit better, but it still has that slightly weird taste I associated with the whole grain kind. Thanks! Laurie Re: Nia Laurie, Do you know to rinse the quinoa very well before cooking? The only other time I've come across someone that didn't like quinoa, they didn't realize it needed to be rinsed. It has a coating on it that makes it very bitter (protects it from pests). So if you don't rinse that coating off before cooking it tastes very bad. You'll see that when you do, it will foam up and you should rinse until it's no longer foaming. Once rinsed, I think it's generally pretty bland and reminds me very much of cous cous. But if you cook it with broth or stock instead of water, I find that it's quite tasty. Just thought I'd suggest that just in case as I think a lot of people don't realize this. Guest guest
I generally don't like quinoa either. I just tried making it as a porridge with sweetener and vanilla, and it actually was edible. I was amazed how GOOD I felt by eating it...it's such quality protein that I was absolutely satisfied for hours. One more idea: quinoa pasta, which is usually quinoa-corn, is very very tasty in my opinion. I cannot STAND quinoa's seedy flavor and weird texture, but love it as pasta. Weird, eh? I think the taste is very different and the quinoa noodles have good flavor to them.Have a great one! Guest guest
Just looked at the class and it sounds interesting. The only studio where I live that has classes is downtown and won't list their class fees, which has me wary. Funny that.Have a great one!!!Hi, , I agree with what you say about carbs; in the past I've had digestive problems with wheat, so have to find other sources I like. I use brown rice pasta and really have grown to like it now; don't really like quinoa, and corn is also a problem for me. Oats are ok but I am not crazy about them, except in spurts! You can learn about Nia here: http://nianow.com/. If you go to the "About" tab at the top and choose "Press," you'll see a "Watch Nia" button at the right. This direct link may or may not work: http://nianow.com/nia-in-action Joy Tanksley, who I just realized last week is on this list (Joy, your blog is AWESOME!), has some blog posts on Nia, which is where I learned about it. I've gotten some of their DVDs and may enroll in a class near me, too. Laurie
Guest guest
Laure! How sweet of you to mention me! I am thrilled to hear that you are stepping into Nia. I've recently moved and (very sadly) there is no Nia here. I may have to get some videos! What do you think of the ones you've used?
