Hi Dawn,

I haven't even had my consult yet. I called way back in the first week of

January and received a consult appointment for the middle of April!

When I called I was 306 lbs and right now I am in the high 260's. At 5' 8 " ,

medium frame, they will probably determine my ideal weight should be 140-150.

So that means if I keep going, I will surely be below the 250 lbs. " magic

number " by the time the surgery would be scheduled in September. This is my

dilemna.

I've been over 100 lbs. overweight 5 times now in my life, and for the past 5

years it hasn't gotten below that. They should take my history into account

and NOT my weight at surgery time!

They only choice I see is to either have them bump me up much earlier, which

isn't likely and isn't fair to the rest of the people waiting, OR, stop

exercising and eating normal meals and go back to my unhealthy eating until the

surgery. I want to cry.

Life is not fair, is it.

-Peg

Peg,

My understanding is that they use how much you weigh at your initial consult.... So if you maintain your current weight until next month, you should be okay. From consult to surgery anything you loose is a bonus.. This is I believe how it is done at NWH, I'm not sure how other practices handle this, but I am 90% sure that they go by your consult weight, not your day of surgery weight.

Hi Joni - at the meeting last night they said they refused to do the

surgery on a woman the other day because lost some weight due to the flu

and she went under the 100 lbs. overweight limit. Dr. Thayer himself

said this. :(
