: I just had this happen this morning...wasn't hungry, but felt light-headed.  When I finally was able to sit down and have a bowl of cereal, I devoured it!  I must have been hungrier than I thought! I think that it makes sense to just have a light " snack " until you actually feel hungry.

Good Morning Friends,

I always hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but to me it's a frustrating battle of " to eat or not to eat " . I wonder if anyone else has this situation.

I have certain medications that I have to take first thing in the morning (must be taken with food). What do I do if I'm not hungry? Sometimes my stomach doesn't wake up until 10:00 am, yet I can't wait that long to take the medication.

Also, there are times when I feel myself light-headed and needing something in the morning to stabalize my blood sugar for the morning so I can think clearly for my work day (which starts early!) ... If I don't eat a little something with protein (hungry or not hungry), my thinking is slower and cloudy.

So, for the above reasons I find myself eating a breakfast (albeit, small, but still, a breakfast) even when I'm not feeling hunger. This goes against what I want to do to maintain the IE lifestyle, yet it's necessary at the same time.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to handle this or if they have the same tug of war with breakfast (or any other meal of the day)? Thanks for any input you have to offer!

Oh I totally agree with this.  Well put.  I too don't feel hungry in

the morning, but make myself eat something little in the morning

because who knows what I'll be doing later and it may not be convenient

then to eat and I'll have to just grab something possibly not the most

healthy.  So better to eat when I have time to think about it.  And if

you've gotta take food with your medication, eat.  There are no food

police to tell you you're doing it wrong.

- I agree with Sue, sometimes you need to just have a snack,

even if you don't think you feel hunger.

Sometimes I know that I only have a window to eat in, and while I'm not

hungry, if I don't eat something then, I will end up feeling ill or

ravenous later.  So I just have a few bites.  As I keep trying to

remember, IE has to work in our life.  If we are holding ourselves to

any rule, ie: only eating when hungry, and feeling bad because that

doesn't fit into our lives, we are still trapped.

Last night dinner smelled horrible to me.  Funny, because I chose it

and I cooked it, but when it was time to dish up, I didn't want to

touch it.  However, it was time to sit down to dinner with the family.

I dished up a small portion for myself and joined the family.  Worked

great and when later I was hungry, I let myself eat that Swiss Miss bar

I'd been wanting mentally, with no strings attached.  Since I'd already

had a small amount at dinner, that was enough to fill the hunger and I

got what I wanted while still setting a good example for my children

and spending time with them.

Hope something of this is helpful, Dawn R
