Guest guest
Did you do a BG before you took it? It would be of interest to you to see what it was and then do one in about 6 hours and see how the medicine affected you. Guest guest
How is the temperature of your fingers? If your fingers are the slightest bit cool, you may have problems getting your fingers to bleed. If this is the case, try running your hands under warm water and squeezing your fingers before doing the finger stick. medicine > > > > > > Hi List, > My medicine came a while ago and I just took my pill. > It came at 10:30. > Becky > >
Guest guest
Hello. When i can not get mine to bleed which is not often but i use warm water over them until they get warmed up. Hope this helps scott Original message: > I can't get my finger to bleed. > I'll keep trying. > Becky > medicine >> Hi List, >> My medicine came a while ago and I just took my pill. >> It came at 10:30. >> Becky >>
Guest guest
Conversely, if her blood is too thin, perhaps if her fingers are too warm in other words, she won't get a bead of blood. I don't think there's any good way to know when we have a good sample until we try to place it on the strip. You can feel where you've pricked, but then you may be ruining the bead. Just keep at it and eventually the meter will be satisfied with the sample. Thankfully, these meters/strips today need only a very tiny amount of blood. Guest guest
Well, I can read it on the meter, but it won't talk or go in to the memory. I tried to relax and I was in the kitchen listening to Let's make a deal from the living room. I have the zolo V2. Guest guest
Not sure what you mean, Becky. If you're using the Solo V2, it's a fully audible meter. Guest guest
It is really frustrating at times to do BG. This morning I had to call my husband in for help as I just could not get blood on the strip although I had stuck myself 4 times. This afternoon, one stick and was successful. There are so many variables. I thing she really needs someone sighted to tell her what is happening. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of dave Bond Sent: Monday, April 09, 2012 11:46 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: medicine Conversely, if her blood is too thin, perhaps if her fingers are too warm in other words, she won't get a bead of blood. Guest guest
It just wasn't talking or putting the new reading in. They told me at diabetic care club to try to hit the edgeor side of the strip. Guest guest
My husband, who is partially sighted, always says a little vision gets him into trouble. He doesn’t see well enough to be absolutely sure of things, but he really does not have the skills us totally blind learn. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Monday, April 09, 2012 2:47 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: medicine I can see a little, but I think so too. Guest guest
what gets me is when you do 2 different test and one is 60 points away from the other one and you know both aren't correct. I suppose the next A1C will tell how you are doing. now for a T 1 like most of you are, this isn't a good thing. A T 2 as I am can get away with it. it just takes lots of finger poking and lots of practice and still then it isn't always right or easy. medicine > > > > > > Hi List, > My medicine came a while ago and I just took my pill. > It came at 10:30. > Becky > >
Guest guest
Oh, well, you were given wrong information. The blood for the Solo strips, as with the Prodigy strips (and probably many other strips) goes directly on the tip. Prick your finger, then hold the meter with the opposite hand and start touching the end of the strip to the point on your finger where you think you pricked it. I never rely on one prick, I must say. I do 2, and sometimes have to do more. Alas, my wife is sighted and helps me out part of the time. But still, keep in mind the end of the strip needs to touch the blood and " suck " some blood on to the strip. You'll begin to feel this as you do it more, since where you have blood, the feel of the end of the strip on your finger is different then when it is if it's dry (as in, no blood). Guest guest
Hello, Becky, With the test strips for the Solo V2, there is a little cut-out V at the finger end of the strip that takes up the blood. You can feel it. That is what you aim for. Dotty -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Visit www.serotek.com to learn more about accessibility anywhere. Guest guest
Hello, Mark, Do keep in mind that the Prodigy Voice gives a false low reading if there is not enough blood on the strip. The Solo V2, on the other hand, actually says: " Insufficient blood " or some such thing. I also remind myself when testing gets frustrating that, although we have to pay a lot for meters because ours talk, meters are really cheap electronic devices. What would re really expect for a gadget under 40 dollars, which is what the sighted people pay for their meters. We've got a twenty-dollar meter with some special functions that make it usable by us blind folks. I would give a few hundred dollars for a meter which grabbed hold of a bit of my arm, poked it, took the blood it needed, then did the measurement and announced the result, but I don't know of any such device out there. Ah, all the best, and enough of my rant. Dotty Dotty -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Visit www.serotek.com to learn more about accessibility anywhere. Guest guest
Yes I know this is true. this is the reason why I'm not impressed with the prodigy. maybe later when they up date it they will fix this issue? for now I will use the Solo, then when I get extra strips for it, I will then use both to see where the difference is. I do recall back in 02 my meter was a Acue check and it was a lot larger then these small meters now. seems like that meter would have cost me $800 if I had to buy it with out insurance. I'm really thankful our strips don't go toward our total cost for the year. I remember when strips were $30 to $50 a bottle. if you test 5 times and more in a day this would certainly add up fast. now they say your I phone or smart phone will soon be able to tell you what your sugar is. I certainly have no desire for a I phone and don't believe I would need one just for my sugar. think I will continue to use the Solo or Prodigy until they no longer make them, but then they will have a different brand by then. I guess I'm to much of an old timer when it comes to phones. I have a simple track phone that flips shut when you are done talking. cost me about $10 a month and not $110 like those with smart phones pay. Now that I'm learning how to not over eat and make smarter choices when I do eat, $100 I save on my phone per month will buy me a pile of good food that month. Now if they could only make a chocolate I phone that you could eat! only good for one month of use, then you eat it up and buy you another one. of course they would be much cheaper since they would only last one month. I will order me a white chocolate phone. certainly do dig white chocolate the best. Now here I go again! have the desire for a chunk of white chocolate! like maybe a zero candy bar?
