Guest guest
Is she getting enough iron? To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Mon, March 21, 2011 11:37:58 AMSubject: Why is she bruising so easily lately? Lately, I've noticed Maia is bruising a lot more easily. She had this bruise on her forearm the other day and I'm not quite sure how she got it. Her preschool's been on spring break this week, so it wasn't that she got hurt at school. She's been home and hasn't been obviously hurt that I can see. She's also been doing a lot of climbing (the spatial problem solving thing is driving me up the wall -- I can't keep anything out of her reach, she WILL find a way to access the things she wants, even if they're kept in places super out of reach). Her shins are all bruised (I guess from having contact with corners of shelves and cupboards when climbing) -- but I don't think she banged it hard -- but she's got all these little bruises all over her shins. Any reason why she may be bruising so easily lately? The slightest contact with any surfaces and she bruises. It's a little unusual for her. Guest guest
She used to have normal iron -- even slightly high. But that was a while ago. That may have changed... Is she getting enough iron? Guest guest
Hm. I would run it by the doc. It can't hurt to check, but more than likely, she's just getting into stuff and getting knocked around....which really is a good thing. (keeping you on your toes!). Guest guest
Stan had that happening to him at one point. It was when we were treating parasites with GSE, OLE, turmeric and Bromelain and Paragone. Do any of these bruises have a white raised center, so the bruise looks like a donut? Anything look like cat scratches, really tiny red spots or bumps the size of a pinhead? If so, you may want to investigate lyme and correlated infections. Guest guest
Nothing raised or unusual looking about them -- just looks like she keeps banging into things -- they're just kinda purply blue all underneath the skin and nothing raised. I've been giving her OLE and lysine lately. And I've been upping her fish oils and started ubiquinol. Stan had that happening to him at one point. Guest guest
I have an appointment with her DAN about her OATs results and to talk about some other stuff. I'll run the bruises by him then, too. Ah, the keeping me on my toes thing...down to my very last atom of energy sometimes. She has become so much more aware in spatial problem solving. I've already tied our kitchen garbage can to a heating grate (so she can't move it to get onto the counter) but she seems to always find other ways. I counter one way, and then she finds another way. This kid just runs circles around me and I've been duped by her diversion techniques and outsmarted at least twice a day. She does things that causes little brother to be needy and then I turn my back and next thing you know, she's up to no good. So much to clean up from all the " up to no good " ... Hm. I would run it by the doc. It can't hurt to check, but more than likely, she's just getting into stuff and getting knocked around....which really is a good thing. (keeping you on your toes!). Guest guest
Fish oils are natural blood thinners and blood thinners can cause a person to bleed more easily. Maybe your increase in fish oils is causing it? > > Nothing raised or unusual looking about them -- just looks like she keeps > banging into things -- they're just kinda purply blue all underneath the > skin and nothing raised. > > I've been giving her OLE and lysine lately. Guest guest
Oh lord, this is not gonna win me any friends on the low ox, as I am, but my son had this until I started supping Vitamin C, which is against the rules. Nothing crazy, but 120mg/day stopped it, along with the horribly chapped lips he used to have. His Vit C level was a 1.4 on his OAT test. Now, I supp every other day, or on days when he doesn't get any in his diet, and it seems to be holding and not causing problems. Guest guest
I don't have her on an SSRI because I never thought she needed it. Yeah, she climbs but everything seems to be falling so nicely in place...except the climbing can be a little much for me sometimes. She just tried going after a jar of honey in the cupboards. She started using the oven door to get up to see the stove. Stuff like that drives me NUTS. I come out of the bathroom and here she is hovering over the stove and that scares the crap out of me. The oven door, for godssakes! I thought she had no way to get up there and she uses the oven door! Things up high are no longer safe. I was thinking maybe it is the fish oils and I'm going too much too fast. I was really hammering it and the word approximations and verbal imitation is SO good lately. I say a word and she can imitate it! (This was our biggest challenge months ago). I started her on some GABA lately and that seems to be working well -- well, except the calming effect isn't quite there. She sleeps like a rock and typically sleeps 12 to 14 hours a night, which is good for me but I wonder if that's too much for her age. I have her on 1 tsp of CLO instead of the 1/2 tsp she was getting before. Do you guys think that's too much? Alberta, I feel your pain. Mine is a climber, leaper, jumper, runner- you name it. Guest guest
Vitamin c was huge huge huge here. (from the oxalate group) explained a week or two ago why it does so awesome at first then seems to cause problems. We didn't experience any negative here - it helped us (immensely) through a pretty tough period. Sometimes we have to pick our demons.... Guest guest
120 mg/day is fine. 120 mg twice a day is generally fine as well... I guess the problem is if the vitamin C is in excess of what is used, it turns into oxalate. So generally recommends just trying to eat high vit c foods. Guest guest
We have some issues with Vit C. I tried it for a while (I had bought the Natural Factors crystals) -- like 1/6 of a teaspoon, which amounted to something like 100 mg, and it gave her some funky runs so I abandoned it but that was a while ago and a few things have changed since then. She had IgG issues with citrus last year because she had been eating tons of oranges but maybe that's changed, too? I should some re-try some citrus fruits in small amounts...I know they're medium oxalate so yeah, we'll definitely go easy on them. I don't think her stomach can handle large amounts of any one thing anyway. 120 mg/day is fine. 120 mg twice a day is generally fine as well... Guest guest
I think pineapple and mango are high in vit c., low in oxalate. Oh, broccoli is a good source of vit c I believe, as well.
