Guest guest
Harry, Usually sugars are broken down first, then protein and finally fats. But it is not that simple. Eating high fat can delay the break down of sugars and because many protein such as beef, pork have fat as part of the meat, it can be delayed in being broken down also. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Harry Bates Sent: Sunday, April 22, 2012 5:40 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: weight is determined by calories. As a scientist you have to know I am a numbers guy. I know they are boring, but that is what scientist do, count numbers over and over again and again until a pattern emerges. We scientist like to keep the number of variables restricted in doing our work. For instance there are only three primary sources of food energy available for your body. You know them as carbohydrates, proteins and fat. Now I do not know for sure which of these sources gets primacy in your digestive system. If you think you know, let me know for sure. They have already figured out how many calories are in each gram of carbohydrate, 4 calories, protein, 4 calories, fat, 9 calories, And they have already figured out how many calories it takes to equal a pound of weight, 3500. Don't be fooled! Scientist try to make the complex as simple as possible, so that getting a grasp of the facts is made more understandable. Inquiring minds want to know, Harry Ridiculous! Guest guest
I have always thought as you stated, but why does digestion of fat delay the digestion of carbohydrates and proteins if fat does not take primacy in the digestion process? just thinking, Harry Ridiculous! Guest guest
Someone asked: " I have always thought as you stated, but why does digestion of fat delay the digestion of carbohydrates and proteins if fat does not take primacy in the digestion process? " Gastric emptying is based on how " soupy " the contents of the stomach is. It takes longer to digest some foods to the point that emptying is triggered. There are receptors in the upper gut which sense the presense of food from the stomach. When this occurs the valve which controls rlease lets go. Guest guest
clarification regarding weight and calories. Weight is determined by the number of unused calories circulating in the blood. If you use all the calories you consume in a day, then you will neither gain or loose weight. if you use more calories than you consume, then you will loose weight. If you use fewer calories than you consume, then you will gain weight. Insulin is the storage hormone. it converts unused glucose filled with calories to fat.Now I do not know which of your body tissues use calories for sure. I believe the muscles use calories and the nerves use calories. I don't know about the bones, skin hair and other things like that, but I would guess that fat does not use any calories at all. If you can figure out exactly or close to it how many pounds you weigh excluding the fat weight, then you can come closer to knowing how many calories you need toconsume each day to survive in doing your daily activities like exercising, thinking, growing hair, etc. still thinking about it, Harry Ridiculous!Who needs a budget? Guest guest
Does this mean that if I consume lots of water with my food that it will make my stomach contents soupier, and cause that pizza to be flushed down into my gut a lot quicker than waiting for hours to digest the piza crust, which is mostly carbs? Guest guest
Actually drinking water with a meal interferes with digestion! RE: weight is determined by calories.
