In my experience, Harry, and anyone, you need to learn how much insulin to take

based on the specific food. For instance, I know to take 10 units of Humalog

when I have a fiber English muffin with peanut butter for breakfast. If my bg

happens to be a little high, I add the proper amount of extra Humalog to allow

for this. Conversely, if I'm a little low, I cut back.

We're all different. You need to determine what foods and how much insulin works

for you. Let your endocrinologist give you some guidelines, but you need to

experiment to see what really works for you.

It's always been a little logic, and a lot of flying by the seat of your pants.

what to do next?

After getting a fasting glr of 264 I consumed 24 grams of carbs in a yoegart

and dosed 19 units of Humalog according to indocrinologist recommendations.

Three hours later my glr was 199,a drop of only 65 points. so I ate a raw

cucumber and three boiled eggs for lunch, for a grand total of not more than two

grams of carbs. Then I dosed 19 units of Humalog again according to

indocrinologist recommendations

Two and a half hours later my glr was finally in the normal range with a glr

of 86. This stuff is driving me to drink, so I had a Michelob beer ultra and a

V8 juice for a grand total of 9.65 grams of carbs wich is less than ten grams of

carbs.What will the glr be at supper timestill sober, Harry?

I forgot. with failing memory and another beer I ate two peanut butter crackers

and drank another beer for another grzand total of 9.65 grams of carbs.

Supper time glr was 164. Then I ate a quarter of an Italian sub sandwich, drank

some diet 7up and dosed 28 units of Humalog according to indocrinologist

recommendations.

Next up is bedtime glr and Lantus dose.

Bedtime glr is 148. Dosed 31 units of Lantus according to indocrinologist

recommendations.

With of two snacks of ten grams of carbs my glr rose 78 points. That is

approximately 4 points per gram of carb consumed.If my fasting glr in the

morning is between 80 and 180 , my indocrinologist will be happy. I will then

declare my blood glucose level to be stabilized. Presently, I declare strict

carb consumption and indocrinologist recommendations to be working. If you ever

find yourself in a glr quandry, I whole heartedly recommend eating as few carbs

as you can. It should be noted that boiled eggs, celery and cucumbers have

practically no carbohydrates in them, and they are an excellent choice for

eating if you are running high glr's.Hopefully my last post with this subject

line will be in the morning. At least at this point I have achieved a symblance

of normality.
