Guest guest
With an A1C of 11.8 you have a serious diabetic problem. If not, you have a serious dietary problem. Are you on meds to lower your glucose levels? If not you should be.
Guest guest
Don't ever be sorry for a ramble. how in the world will any one of us who never post much learn? all list will have those who listen and hardly ever post, so us who do post must write about all we have been through and how we are doing it now. always remember this, some one is always watching us and how we deal with every day life and always there is those who just listen and they learn. we all got a very important story to tell about. dealing with this disease they call diabetes can be a slow killer if folks don't learn the truth and the facts. Guest guest
I wrote a paper for a grad course a number of years back (2006), on diabetes, and one of the interesting facts I discovered in my research was this: Diabetes is the hardest chronic disease to manage, even more so than cancer. This is because it's a 24/7 disease. Especially type 1, but for type 2 also. We don't get a break from it, unless we choose to ignore it with dire consequences. Guest guest
24 7 is so very true! never ending struggle for most. the problem most have with keeping there A1C down is doing it right you got to take a step back from normal living. folks these days center there life around food! restaurants every where! smells from food every where! it really isn't one bit fair, but still if we wish to go on living with all of our body parts, then we got to step back and not be like the rest. seems to me the addiction to food and over eating is about as bad as it gets. alcohol and drugs we can live with out ever touching again, but food? go with out eating for very long and you stop living. we can step out of good sugar control now and then, but we have to pay the price that high sugars will cause. those who are T 1 can take a bigger shot to cover the extra carbs eaten, but I bet this practice still isn't wise if you do it all the time? then a T 2 can't do anything for the sugar being to high if we slip and over eat with our buds. the crazy thing is you can look all around you and see thousands of folks headed down the path of diabetes in a few years just from watching there life style. I try to let them know what has happened to me and my health for ignoring the facts, but do you think they listened or cared? they just keep on with the party and the drinking like it is the only thing in the world that really matters. 24 7 is correct and at times it makes me wish to tare my hair out because I can't eat all those things that I use to eat all I wanted. even knowing what that practice has done to me now, I still have those moment when I desire to tie the feed bag on and just stop with the worry for just one day. of course not going to do this to day or to morrow either. now you take a guy like me who has to lower his A1C as well as losing weight, well this can be a job! I heard a doctor say one time that a diabetic should have one meal out of 21 in a week and eat what ever they had to give up. he did say not to pig out on the meal, but to just eat a little of those foods that he or she has ignored for the whole week. I tried this advice a while back many years ago and it didn't work well for me. that one meal done me in because it wasn't long before I was eating 5 meals out of the week instead of one. I suppose I just do better with all or none. seeing as how you like to write and the such, you need to figure out why when we are younger we ignore good advice and do it our way, which gets us in all kinds of trouble later in life. Why does younger people think the bad will never happen to them? actually some older folks feel the same way. I know of more then one person who is a T 2 who is over weight and there A1C is way up there and they hardly ever go have it checked and don't seem to worry about it. Where does this attitude of the lack of personal concern come from? you said 24 7 and at times I believe there is more then 36 hours in one day. especially in those days where every smell of all kinds of grilling burgers out side attacks me in a powerful way! Call From The Doctor Hi All, I got a call from Dr. and he is not too happy. My blood sugar was 169 which I did not think was that bad. But my A1C was 11.8 and he warned me that I had better watch it or I will end up in the hospital. Guest guest
you best not go and hang your silly self. ever seen the movie the good bad and ugly? where East wood puts that ugly man on top of the toom stone with a rope around his neck and his share of the gold on the ground at the bottom of the stone he is standing on. lets him do a balancing act there on that stone and trying not to hang his stupid self. then East wood gets way up there on the hill and turns and shoots the rope in to and the fellow falls with out hanging him self. Damn good movie that was. watched it probably ten times and still like it more each time. The good, the bad and the ugly! now wonder which one you would be? I the pig would be the good for certain! Guest guest
I have been the gentlemen pig for so many years that it is what all my buds call me. I wouldn't know who they were talking to if they used my real birthing name my Momma gave me. Now talking about pork. I love pork! Easter is here and no ham for the pig this year. A cooks or a fricks is about as good as it gets. bone in and bake that puppy for about 3 hours or so depending on the size of course. rub it down with some mustard and brown sugar and some cinnamon sprinkled all over it. the trouble I always had was only eating one pound at a meal. when you the cook and the one who cuts it up? well no getting around eating only one pound. then there is right's brand thick slice bacon! man o man is that stuff so good! kind of on the costly side, but we only live once and money will spoil if you hide it in a hole and leave it to long. pork chops on the grill and pork loin? I purchased me a fine table top gas grill at Sam's yesterday. just big enough for the 2 of us and better then charcoal because you turn it on, cook and turn it off. charcoal may taste better, but when you can't eat like a pig any more, then lots of wasted fire to walk away from. ever had salmon or fresh tuna on the grill? throw some asparagus on there and rub it down with butter and spices and some Brussels sprouts as well and wrap them up in some tinfoil and let cook for a bit. can even throw in some mush rooms and yellow squash as well. ever had some grilled pine apple on the grill? nothing as good as a ribeye on the grill that has been all spiced up in the ice box over night. grilled sweet potatoes and you in pig heaven brother! it doesn't get any better then cow and pig on the grill and then always top the day off with a few red cold beers and thank God for a perfect day! Guest guest
Boy Mark, you've got that right and I totally agree with everything you have said. I have also learned that when you have dinner at people's homes, or at relatives, make sure you watch out for the person that keeps asking, " Did you get enough? " Or, " Come on, have some more, there's plenty. " Most of these I have dealt with, have never had a diabetic in the family, or even known any. Guest guest
Not so much we have to be stronger, although this is true somewhat, but we have to be smarter. My personality allows me to be blunt and matter-of-fact quite easily. When we're eating at family or friends, I know what I can eat and I let them know. I spoke at a Lions meting the other night. Before that night, I made it clear with the contact person I didn't care for cheese, and would they please make sure they didn't serve something like Lasagna. And they didn't. And I'm sure they didn't mind input from me either. Food is part of your medical regime. You eat only what you need to eat. Can you enjoy what you eat? Of course, but you need to learn to never be afraid to say no, or to speak up if you need something a little different. Would your friends or family members deny you some medication you need for survival? Perhaps more with a t1, but t2's also, food is very much part of this medical regime we need to have an intimate knowledge of, and what to do and not to do in order to help our bodies survive.
