Guest guest
Hi All, I just joined the group today as I just started reading the IE workbook. I love this idea. It makes SO much sense to me. Yet, I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed as to where to start and if it will work. Where should I start? The book is helpful and insightful, but I have spent almost 1/2 my life dieting or worrying about food--i don't even know what it means to be hungry or satisfied. Anyone have any good newbie tricks? Also, how do I have patience with the process. I can't stand the idea of gaining more weight but is that the 'price' to pay while I make this journey? Any insights would be so appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi , First of all, it is very overwhelming when you start reading and start thinking this is awesome but how in the world and where in the world do I begin! Can I tell you that I didn't "get the hang of it" until after reading the book twice. And I have read it again! You will get it - just keep reading. It all makes sense and comes together. For me, weight gain did not happen when I really began IE. For some reason giving myself permission to eat, and thinking about choices before I dove in without thinking, made things easier. And as for hunger - that one is hard. I am sure everyone is different. I am like you - have dieted over half my life. One thing that seemed to help me was to get up and eat within an hour after I woke. I knew that I must be hungry even though I had no idea. Also I tried to eat something every three or four hours. Not something huge, but a snack or something that sounded good like a piece of cheese and some almonds. Soon I found that I was really hungry when I woke up and I can't wait to have my breakfast. I still am not sure all the time when I need to eat. Like today - it is SOOOO cold here today (-1 was the high) and I was bored out of my mind. I stay home to watch my 6 month old granddaughter and sitting inside makes me crazy. I wanted to eat all day. I knew I wasn't hungry but I sure felt like eating. Hope this helps. You can do it - just don't try to start too fast and just enjoy reading the book for now.
