Guest guest
Thanks for all of the great ideas/support around breakfast!! Someone mentioned in one of their response posts that we have to listen to our bodies. To me this always meant my stomach, and only my stomach. But when I think about what my head needs, it is a little something in the a.m. before work to help me to have a clear head for the morning. Even if my stomach is not growling, it's still what my body needs (in a holistic sense). It's so great to have the freedom to listen to what my body needs and to be intuitive about what it needs! The freedom is wonderful. Someone else mentioned about what other cultures like for breakfast. When my DH and I were in Hawaii a few years ago, our hotel put out a wonderful spread of sushi for breakfast (along side the usual breakfast items). I made a B-Line straight for the sushi! I love sushi so much, I always say " I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! " ... It took the Hawaiian's (God bless them!) to give me permission to actually DO it! Still to this day, if there's left over sushi in the frig from the night before, I gladly have it for breakfast. My body always welcomes this kind of nourishment and I always feel great after a sushi meal! Again, this freedom is wonderful. Thanks for everyone's support and input! ¢¾ > > Hi , > I also used to struggle with breakfast. When you start the intuitive eating process it is very important to eat what you want when you want. But as you walk through the process it is inevitable that you will begin to learn things about nutrition and how your body responds to certain foods. For example before you started IE you may have craved a certain food all the time such as red licorice but after you allowed yourself to have it whenever you wanted you learned that it really didn't satisfy your hunger and your body may have felt lethargic after eating it so you CHOOSE to eat something that feeds your body better and gives you more energy. Licorice is still allowed whenever you want it but it no longer appeals to you the way it did before. > > The same goes for what times a day we eat. I used to not be hungry in the mornings and when I was eating what I wanted when I wanted I tended to eat late at night. My nutritionist told me that my body needs energy during the day, it does not need energy at night when I am sleeping. So I started to eat breakfast, smaller amounts at first still honoring my fullness, and by doing that I ended up eating more during the day when my body needed it and not eating so much late at night. It took about a week or two for my body to get used to it but now I naturally wake up hungry in the morning (personally I really look forward to breakfast). I still honor my hunger and fullness cues though so sometimes I will eat late at night IF I am hungry but it usually doesn't take very much to satisfy my hunger at that time of day, and I know that I can get up and have an amazing breakfast in the morning that will give me the energy I need to do my day. > > After years of restricting and dieting it stands to reason that we will need some help to return to what our body really wants, but above all make sure you are listening and responding to your body at the same time. > > I hope this was helpful. > Tana >
