Guest guest
Hello all! For all those who have already read the book or who are in the midst of the book, I'm going to try to be more diligent about weekly chapter posts. Let's talk about the satisfaction factor...which is apropos to the discussions right now because we're talking about legalizing previously forbidden foods in order to allow ourselves to experience satisfaction. I love it!!! 1. Have you become in touch with your own body's inner wisdom, the Wisdom of Pleasure as mentioned on p. 135? Do you understand that pleasure helps you with hunger and satisfaction cues? How do you feel about that passage? 2. Have you found that when you allow yourself to enjoy your food, you are satisfied and do end up eating less in the long run? Can you share some experiences about how satisfaction has helped you gain more body awareness and joy plus good nutrition? 3. P. 137, how to regain your pleasure in eating. Step one: Ask yourself what you REALLY want to eat. Have you been doing this? Have you found that sometimes you eat odd things at odd hours but end up happier in the long run? Have you found that some food you used to love now you really hate? Have you ever found that opposite, that some food you thought you hated now you love? 4. Step 2, p. 138, Discover the Pleasures of the Palate. Are you in touch with the sensual qualities of food? What tastes do you love? What textures appeal or don't appeal? Are there certain aromas you love and some you hate? What about appearance? Temperature? Volume or filling capacity (see p. 140)? 5. Have you worked with the checklist on p. 141? Have you developed a different format that appeals to you? How do you decide what you're going to eat and when when trusting your intuition? 6. Step 3: Make your eating experience more enjoyable!!! What helps you to savor your food more? Options are time, sitting down, taking deep breaths, eating slowly, respecting fullness. Any other options? I enjoy eating out with friends and celebrating good foods with good company, for instance. 7. Do you think about the options on p. 143? Eating without tension, eating in pleasant environment, and eating when gently rather than overhungry? What about variety? 8. Step 4: Don't Settle. " If you don't love it, don't eat it, and if you love it, savor it. " I just made a pot of vegan cream of broccoli soup, and I hated the taste...new recipe and didn't enjoy. I threw it all out...because I don't have to eat what I don't like...I'm not settling. In the past I would have eaten some of it while feeling guilty that I didn't eat all of it and on and on. I'm worth more than that. Please share some experiences about settling for foods you don't like, or learning to surpass that. 9. Step 5: Check in: does it still taste good? Have you worked with this? Any experiences to share? 10. " Knowing what you like to eat, and believing that you have the right to enjoy food, are key factors in a lifetime of weight control without dieting. " Do you feel that you can trust your body, a key philosophy in intuitive eating? If you don't, why not? Do you still believe that you are " out of control " , and other crazy diet philosophies? Are you approaching intuitive eating with joy or a pessimistic attitude? Are you developing a new love affair with food? I love that this chapter is rising up right now after I've heard a lot of negative discussion on the list about what people feel they can't eat or how they're restricting themselves. I've jumped off the diet wagon and don't like to hear about it, esp. on this list!!! How nice to turn the conversation to thing sensual...a loving attitude about food.
