Guest guest
My son is on the Spectrum so I am very concerned about PANDAS. Each time he is getting a strep flare his facial tics start up but as soon as we start Zithromax they stop which is a good sign I guess. We are using Culturelle so no strep strains and we are not using Nystatin but thanks for that info Tammy because I did not know Nystatin was strep derived. Interesting what said about her DAN treating viruses to try to shrink tonsils.
Guest guest
Do you belong to the nids yahoo group? That would be a great place to look. Guest guest
Adenoids and Tonsils are one of the things they like to cut out that they really dont even understand what they do or the consequences of living without them. Similiar to thyroids. Both do things within the body important to fighting infection. So if it were me (and i dont have tonsils because they cut them out when I was little, i do have scar tissue that effects my eustachian tube on one side where the tonsil was) i would try other options before letting them cut them out. Test his thyroid appropriately to see if it is contributing to his being unable to eliminate the strep. The antibiotics dont seem to be curing the strep since it returns when you stop them, so trying something different seems logical to me. Iodine with a comprehensive nutritional program could eliminate the strep. Gargling with diluted Lugols Iodine several times a day(every hour first day, every few hours for 5 days after) will kill strep in the mouth and throat. It needs to be applied many times to keep the infected areas saturated with iodine for at least 24 hours. If the person cant gargle, use a clean spray bottle with iodine and distilled water sprayed on the back of the throat. Or sip iodine water all day. People have cured strep with iodine. There are naysayers who try to discredit iodines' power, so try it for yourself. Cheryl > > My son is on the Spectrum so I am very concerned about PANDAS. Guest guest
From what I understand of the tonsils - they act as a purifier (a first line defense) when it comes to viruses, bacteria, etc. If they are constantly swollen - it could mean that they are lacking something to help purify (so the stuff is getting 'stuck' ) According to my book (Ultimate Healing System) -- sulfur is usually lacking. Epsom salts baths, garlic, eggs, onions, is a way to get sulfur in the body. I take 6 garlic pills a day...I put garlic in everything my kids eat where they won't balk at it. We have never had a tonsil issue in my family (extended even) -- but I know that some families it seems to be 'genetic' (ha!) -- so it's probably something that the family needs more of or the body isn't utilizing correctly... (a malfunction, if you will) :)laura > > > > My son is on the Spectrum so I am very concerned about PANDAS. Guest guest
Cheryl, We have not checked his thyroid since he was a newborn. I was on thyroid meds for Hyperthyroidism my entire pregnancy. I've always wondered what kind of effect that had on his thyroid? He is very skinny but that runs in my family. Tasha
Guest guest
If you were on Synthroid (i am assuming you were because you said Thyroid Meds)it would have an effect. You were/are probably iodine deficient and so that means he probably is too. If you are still taking anything other than Natural Thyroid Replacement get your doc to change it. Synthroid is just bad for most of the population. It should a been recalled long ago. I would check every child with autism for thyroid function. Make sure you test the Frees, both Free T3 and Free T4. 98% of doctors dont test the correct things. Or they say not to worry about slightly off numbers. s doctor felt his thyroid and said there was no swelling so it was fine. I wonder how many docs in the world do the same. Here is a comprehensive list of what to test: http://thyroid.about.com/od/gettestedanddiagnosed/a/bloodtests.htm Looking at symptoms along with test results are important. Alot of people in the low ranges who have minor symptoms feel better and get more mid range results after supplmentation. Years of minor symptoms leads to major problems.
