Guest guest
I'm really sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience. Have you ever tried Klonopin? I take it for both panic attacks and sleep. I also use it as a tranqiliser. It works SOO well for me. I've been taking it for quite a few years now, and sometimes I think it's my best friend. I usually take 1 mg for panic attacks and to sleep, but I can take 2 mgs if needed. If I'm just having a stressful day, and am 'jittery' from nerves, I take 1/2 mg. I don't use it every day, as I often have no trouble sleeping, (I have CFS, which means I tend to sleep too much at times.) However there are always those nights when I can't get to sleep, then I will take a Klonopin for it. For panic attacks I always take one as quickly as possible. When you have a panic attack do you use the manuever, I can't think what it's called, but you bear down as though you are trying to have a BM. You push for as long as you can, and then relax a few moments, if it isn't letting up, then repeat it. There IS a 'knack' to doing it, but I've never had an 'accident' yet while doing it. You can also try breathing into a paper bag, cos we always hyperventilate while we're having panic attacks. I can actually do both at once. Some people find that opiates actually bring on a panic attack. Luckily they have never done that to me, but there are people who are super-sensitive to them. I have met at least two people who have panic attacks when they use them. Anyway, if you've never tried Klonopin, you might ask your doctor about it. Some doctors are as reluctant to prescribe it as they are opiates. I guess it can be addicting too, or if you take it every day, your body will adjust to it, and you will have bad withdrawal symptoms. I've never had a problem with it, and know lots of people on this group take it too. Hope you're feeling better today. I doubt that your family thought you 'ruined' anything. Guest guest
Hi , I don't think you ruined everyone's New Years Eve; it was yours that was ruined. I am so sorry you had such a violent attack of pain and that it caused a painic (just noticed that was spelled wrong, didn't correct it because it seems more appropriate spelled that way) attack. What a terrible thing to go through. You had already taken your vicodin and soma I guess, and then it came on anyway. I'm glad you had some Xanax for the panic attack. Do you feel better when the panic subsides? Is the pain more bearable then? I just hate that your night was ruined and that you have such extreme pain. Do you have the breakthrough pain often after you've taken your meds? I hope you feel better today. I spent New Years Eve at home nursing a flare and bronchitis. I usually go to my cousin's for movies until the ball drops, but not this year. I'm beginning to believe that fibro lowers my immune system, because I can't seem to shake this bronchitis. Take care of yourself. I hope you don't panic because you are worried what your family will think about your having such pain and crying. They need to be taking care of you. You don't exactly plan the attacks. Gentle hugs, Marti Kittell wrote: Hey everyone, I hope you all had a good new years eve. Mine was not so good. we had a small get together mainly for the kids. I could not take it. by then I was having a panic attack, I always do when I have extream pain. I dont know what to do. I already take vicoden and soma, lyrica made me worse (imagine that) I tried just about everything. I did take a xanex last night and it seemed to help. I dont have a bath tub only a shower and by that point I dont have the energy for one. Sorry to complain but im so discourged and disappointed I dont know what to do. Guest guest
Hi - The next time this happens, you need to take the Xanax right away when you feel the pain getting bad. This will curb the anxiety and will help to calm you down some. You can't put it off, because as you said, you get panicky, and that just makes it all worse. Also, if Xanax doesn't seem to work that well, you might consider asking your doctor to switch to Klonopin. This basically does the same thing, but I was told that the affects last longer than the Xanax does. Just a thought. And please don't beat yourself up for ruining New Year's Eve. It's not your fault. You didn't ask for this. If having family parties is too much for you, then don't have them anymore until you can handle them. I wish you a happy new year and hopefully a less painful one as well. Take care. Jeanne in WI > Hey everyone, I hope you all had a good new years eve. Mine was not so > good. we had a small get together mainly for the kids. Guest guest
HI , Jeanne has a good point about asking your doctor about Klonopin. I take the generic, clonazepam, every day. Xanax is best for a quick " fix " when you are in the middle of a panic attack, but clonazepam can keep them from happening. It is a different type of drug. I would definitely ask about it since you seem to have panic attacks often.
