Guest guest
Yes, Rheumatologist, but others too. Depends on too many variables. The best docs I've used have been Osteopaths. But not all of them are good for Fibro. Some are some don't even believe in it. We have an excellent Osteopath near by (in VA) that specializes in Fibro. I just recently learned about an excellent Rheumatologist as well. Haven't seen him but know someone that was just diagnosed by him and everything I've heard about him sounds excellent. Word of mouth helps, maybe check with hospitals, etc. Which I could help you more. ~Jennie **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Sue, I don't think there is an easy answer to this unfortunately. Most people here see rheumatologits. Some of these docs help them alot, some don't. I think it depends on the doctor. My family practice doctor takes care of my fibro. Of course he is one of the few that understand fibro and believe in prescribing pain meds for it. I am just totally blessed to have found him. If I were you I would call doctor offices and ask them about fibromyalgia and do they treat it. I would also try to find out HOW they treat it. Some of the doctors are really fruitcakes with their methods. Alot of them don't realize that this kind of pain " really is that bad " and it is " real " and that alot of us need narcotic pain meds. Guest guest
My specialist comes under rheumotology. I think that you get used to " the look " after a while and I don't tell people unless they ask. If they ask I answer truthfully and if they don't ask I don't volunteer unless I have to to get through the next bit with them (Like the pain was so bad the other day I took a pass on a 3 hour drive with a friend, I just said " I wasn't up to it " ). Right now I have huge probs with my ex, he married a women from another country WITHOUT meeting her, he moved her into his house without consulting any one plus she has 4 special needs kids too. When she arrived in the country after meeting my kids they decided they don't want to visit him, they don't like who is has become since he met her (he is pretty angry, the oh ! shit what have I done factor has hit). I need the kids to go because I need the rest, but I can't win if I MAKE them go they act up and damage themselves and if I say give them a weekend off and let them rest from the intensity of it all, I get punished by not getting the break and he screams abuse at me for ruining his life. He wants to know why they don't want to visit, I told them it's because they are having problems adjusting to it all, of course he thinks that all he has to do is put them all in a room together and " thrash it out " . It just doesn't occur to him that perhaps his kids just want to " hang out " and don't want to go to their dad's house to " thrash anything out " . But get this his parting shot is " you always get what you want " . Errrrrrr ok I'm missing something, what I want is the rest not this mess so how am I getting what I want ? People who don't get this illness have rose coloured glasses on. Maybe one day they will get it but if it isn't today don't blame them just move on. Guest guest
Thanks all in regard to suggesting a rheumatologist. I will try to find one here. Someone else (not from this group) suggested a pain clinic, but not sure about that one. Again thanks all. I appreciate the support. It's nice to have someone believe you. Can you just say I am sick of the blank stares? Sue/AZ
Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time with your ex. That situation must really be hard on your kids. I can understand them not wanting to be forced to hang around on weekends with kids they don't know. There were no kids involved when my ex married and my kids, even though they were in college, were really glad. Of course she was 20 years younger than he but he tends to be a cliche. Does he live close to you? Can they play with their friends when they are visiting him? I know you need the rest. I would be hard pressed to have to take care of kids all the time with this fibro. I don't know how so many people do it. I was 42 when I was dx, after 2 years of looking so 40 with the symptoms, so my kids were older and were actually a help. You hit a nerve with me when you said he says " you always get what you want. " That and " just do what you want to do, that's what you always do anyway " are expressions that make my blood boil. I just wish they were true. It would be such a different life. Take care, Marti Kate Court wrote: My specialist comes under rheumotology. Guest guest
It seems that this is the very reason we got divorced. Whn my son was 6 he was kicked out of school, his Dr said home school him he has PTSD, we agreed that we would follow the advice of the Dr over our son;s epileptic autism becasue I wanted to pull him out of school and let him heal and then reintroduce him to school a bit later whilst my husband wanted to put him into a classroom and make him thrash it out. The umpire in our marriage sided with me and said home school him but my ex said no way and we went to court and sued our local school and lost, our son had to stay home. 3 weeks later my husband graduated from uni after an 8 year degree that I paid for and walked out, under the terms " I didn't sign up for no f " ked up kids " . So for me this is the same fight just 5 years later should I help her " avoid " and recup or " expose " and watch her crash, I decided yet again to go along with her Dr's recommendations and thats 2 morrow at 9am soooo well it's just hard, what he needs is a better relationship with his kids but in reality you cant get a court order for that, so blame me all you want at the end of the day though the only person who suffers in my DD and she is getting older as we go, she will soon simply refuse to see him full stop. Of course we havent even begun on the new child support laws and the impact they have on everyone's bank account, another reason he is so upset ehhe.
