Guest guest
It can be difficult to get a keto-friendly version of chloral hydrate but apparently it does exist. Another option to break up something like status is peraldahyde - stinky but often effective Don Gallagher wrote: > Barb wrote: > >>>Maybe > they can give him Ativan or Valium or Chloryl Hydrate...whatever to > stop > this spiral of seizures....get him stable <<< > Is it true that Chloral Hydrate can stop a spiraling seizure cycle??? > cannot have benzodiazepenes as they throw her deep into > status. Guest guest
Its a real old AED, that fell out of use when newer ones came out. It is given rectally. Its the drug on " First Do No Harm " movie that they gave to kid in hospital and it ate a hole through plastic container they had it in. Very dramatic and scary. Fact is it has a very short shelf life once opened and can't be stored in plastic but we used it for Jess for years and I never saw it eat anything michelle Diller wrote: > > I never heard of praldahyde. >
Guest guest
THEY ALSO SAY CHLORAL HYDRATE IS USED AS A SEDATIVE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN ONLY BECAUSE IN OLDER CHILDREN, IT MAY WORK THE OPPOSITE SANDI
Guest guest
I have never used it at home for emergencies...but for some reason, I thought you " could " use it. Maybe it's considered a " hospital only " emergency med. Not sure, but you could ask around. Sorry can't offer more info. Guest guest
I'm just remembering something I heard from several years ago.... they were putting out some new advisory on the use of chloral hydrate for professionals because there had been some deaths associated with it.... I don't know whether it was due to overdosing or what. I just remember that they were saying it was not quite as safe and benign as some were used to thinking. Katera has had it a couple of times with no problems .... sedation for a CT scan and once for an EEG when she was a baby. Anyway, that could be why they don't approve it for home use by parents. I just hadn't heard of it in relation to seizure control. But I do mean to ask the neuro if it might be an option for us to break up seizure cycles, since the benzodiazepenes are out. Thanks for bringing up the question!! I won't even jinx by saying we haven't had need of an emergency med since she started the diet...shhhh.
