Guest guest
Things are starting to make sense after all these years seeing that so many of you have had the same dx. Such as depression. I was in my early 20,s when first dx'd with depression. But couldn't tolerate some of the meds, think I tried most of them. About 12 years ago my doc treated me for panic disorder prescribing paxil. Haven't had a panic attack since. Thank goodness. But next week I see my doc with orders from my Rh to reacess my depression. Yes, have been feeling more depressed. My question is what are some of the anti-depressants some of you are on. What works well for you. The paxil has contributed to alot of weight gain for me, now that's depressing. lol Judy debra van ness wrote: The SSRI's such as prozac, paxil, celexa, zoloft and a few other new ones now----- Original Message ---- [ --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Hi Judy, It does seem like many of us on this site suffer from depression. I've always wondered if is because we are frustrated and in pain from the fibromyalgia or if the depression and anxiety disorder brought on the fibromyalgia or neither one. I have suffered from depression for many years, from around the time I was dx in 1991. I had many other reasons to have depression and those were the reasons I went to the doctor for. Over the years I have taken Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Clonazepam, Geodon and Trazadone. I am doing OK now but still take meds. What do you think the relationship between fibro and depression/anxiety disorder is, if any? Thanks, Marti Judy Thurow wrote: Things are starting to make sense after all these years seeing that so many of you have had the same dx. Such as depression. Guest guest
I did very well on Lexapro, but with so many job changes for the DH, and so many insurance changes, I checked my insurance formulary, and the good ole generic prozac works very well for me. Talked with my PCP at that time, and she was willing to try the less expensive Prozac and it works like a charm. Prior to the Lexapro, I did take Celexa and did well on it. I guess they all work well for me, thankfully, and I just request the one that's cheapest on my current insurance drug list. I cannot maintain without the 20mg dosage of an antidepressant. Have tried 10mg and it doesn't do the trick for me. It truly must be a familial thing, as there is nobody in my immediate family who is not prone to depression. I choose to treat it and have a full life! girlsaylor My question is what are some of the anti-depressants some of you are on. What works well for you. Guest guest
Hi Judy and girlsaylor, I take Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Clonazepam, Geodon and Trazodone. It seems to be a good combo for me, even though it's a lot. I didn't start this particular " coctail " until last May and I don't have any complaints Now if one of these is making me gain weight, then I better stop blaming the Prednisone and decide if it's one of these because that is depressing. Take care, Marti jeribelle2000 wrote: I did very well on Lexapro, but with so many job changes for the DH, and so many insurance changes, I checked my insurance formulary, and the good ole generic prozac works very well for me. Guest guest
I had post natal depression with my second child and it was severe and I have to say that this type of " depression " is not the same. With the PND I was so paralysed I was auto pilot most days and did not care what happened in the next ten minutes let alone the rest of my life, with this though I KNOW that my life could be so much better without the FM. I know that there was life before it and a life after it if a cure can be found. So if it is depression its a " different' type of depression. Guest guest
Judy - back in the day when there was only Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft, a doc explained them like this to me. She said of the 3, Paxil was the most soothing or calming. Zoloft was the most energizing and Prozac was sort of in the middle somewhere. Well, now we have so many more. Your body has just gotten used to the Paxil so it doesn't seem to work anymore. That happened to me with Zoloft. I recommend Cymbalta to most people because it's what I take. It has an energizing type effect on some and also helps with pain. Don't know how it will affect your panic attacks. Good luck with switching. I know it's a pain. Guest guest
I believe/know I had symptoms of depression and anxiety in elementary school and they really escalated when I hit puberty. This coincided with a move so I had to make new friends and had all that stress as well. I continued to have bouts of depression during high school and college. I was first officially diagnosed with depression in 1990. This was the first time I was ever given medication and it was imipramine, because we did not have drug coverage and the drug was cheap. So in my case, I believe the regular bouts of depression along with increased anxiety as I got older was/is the cause of my FM. But controlling the depression and anxiety does not fix my FM. Had the depression been recognized in childhood and dealt with, I believe it may have prevented or at least delayed the onset of disabling FM symptoms. But it was the 70's when mental illness was taboo and certainly not thought to exist in children. Jeanne in WI > Hi Judy, > It does seem like many of us on this site suffer from depression.
