That paragraph sounded very familiar to me (having, ten years ago, typed

the first 164 pages or the bb into my computer, as well as having read and

studied it for varying reasons, I'm all too familiar with it). I found it,

in chapter 4, " we agnostics " :

>Instead of regarding ourselves as intelligent agents, spearheads of

>God's ever advancing Creation, we agnostics and atheists chose to

>believe that our human intelligence was the last word, the alpha and

>the omega, the beginning and end of all. Rather vain of us, wasn't it?

It's also interesting how many references Bill sneaks in - there's a

Bible verse where God says " I am Alpha and Omega " .

I swear this sounds familiar too, likely lifted or adapted from some

other AA literature:

> " Would it not be much safer and surer if investors knew something about the

>companies into which they were buying?

>When his grandfather wanted to purchase a cow, he went to look at the cow,

>feel its legs, inquire about how much milk it gave, its age and forebears,

>etc. Why shouldn't this same principle be applied to the buying of stocks? "

Of course,

rather more likely is that ghostwrote it, just like the way he

wrote that " To Wives " chapter pretending to be an alcoholic's wife.

I've heard that eventually Lois wrote a " Dearest " where she

spilt the beans on 's womanizing and his unremoved defects of

character. Now that would make interesting reading.
