Guest guest
Hi Peg, I too am alone (unless you count 2 kids, 2 cats & a dog)... I had my cousin bring me home from the hospital and spend the weekend with me. I actually would have been fine by myself. My bedroom is on the second floor and even though they advised against the stairs I went up and down the stairs, just took my time and limited it as much as I could. I would not have been comfortable on the couch and after 4 days in the hospital was really looking forward to my own bed... Plus my shower is upstairs as well.. I found I could do everything for myself except for going to the drug store and the market...You will need someone to run errands for you and to be available to take you to get your staples out, etc... You will not be able to drive for 7-10 days depending on your type of surgery and your surgeons recommendation. This was my experience, I had very little trouble and was cooking and cleaning within a couple of days... I really had to as I did not have anyone to help me... It was not a problem for me, but please remember that everyone is different. My biggest problem was not being able to tie my sneakers and wash me feet in the shower.... Make sure you have liquid soap, because if you drop the bar you probably will not be able to pick it up... I finally ended up at the end of the shower dropping the sponge on the floor and rubbing my feet on it! Although I did have the kids pick it up for me later, so next shower I would have it... You will be unable to pick up anything over 25lbs, no real bending or stretching, so make sure all your supplies are at a level where you can easily gain access to them.... Hope this helps, Joni - Dr. Thayer 11/27/00 -----Original Message-----From: pegsweb@... I'm not worried about it too much asI've got a good exercise regime going and I'll likely not be too laid upafterwards if all goes well.But.... are there things that you needed help with when you first got home?My bedroom is upstairs.... should I plan on avoiding stairs for a few days?I guess I could sleep on the couch if needed. What were some of the most uncomfortable or troubling things for you thefirst week back home? Thanks a,,Peg
