Guest guest
I know an awful subject but my husband has just " put up with " so much for so long but am starting to worry that we aren't being aggressive enough in seeing a specialist. He has bouts of 3-5 weeks of rectal bleeding and so much rectal pain (w/o bowel movements) that it is almost unbearable. His general doc has checked for hemorroids but said no. Is this a symptom of UC? Also is exccessive flatulence a side effect of 1600 mg of Urso? I just don't even know what normal is anymore. Thanks everybody (Puyallup, WA, Hubby Tom, PSC '94)
Guest guest
Hi , I'm on 1250 to 1500 mg of Urso each day. For me this has a severely constipating effect with associated pain and wind. A couple of weeks back I took a trip to the local pharmacy and they gave me a mild laxative that they usually give to people who are on codeine based medication. This works well and greatly relieves both the pain and wind, so it may be worth a try. I think that any bleeding episodes are worth a trip to your GP. It may be nothing but it's always best to get it checked out. Other than that I found that Urso gets my life back on track. Back to pink skin rather than grey, more energy, no more jaundice and LFT's back to roughly where they should be. So the 'fors' outweigh the 'againsts' in my instance. Actually, I'm thinking about having the odd 'unmedicated' week now and again. Just to avoid the discomfort that I seem to get from Urso. Sorry, but I don't know about UC but others here will be able to offer advice on that subject. BTW Don't forget that every Urso capsule should be taken with a full glass of water. This seems to help a bit too. Guest guest
Dear , I am so sorry your husband is having these symptoms. I am answering your email because I just got out of the hospital with a Colitis flare and am rapidly becoming an expert on this subject. HA. I have had UC for at least 10 years and have been in remission for most of that period. But it came out of remission with a bang this last time with the symptoms you describe x10. Bleeding with pain, rectal pain with or without the bowel movements, frequency of the movements and excessive gas are all symptoms of something going on in the large bowel( maybe small bowel too). This could be Colitis or some infection. The thing is that it must be investigated PDQ. Get your doc to hook you up with a Gastroenterologist so he can be investigated. There are great medicines out there to control this. Good luck. Ali
Guest guest
Always question rectal bleeding. Yes, it is a symptom of UC (it took me about 1.5 years to get it totally under control after diagnosis). The bleeding itself can cause new problems to deal with. The urso can make the UC worse, as it did in me and many others. They can usually get this under control if they are aware of the problem. If his doc is not looking past hemorroids, go somewhere else. (MO) PSC & UC 1984, chronic pancreatitis 1997
