Guest guest
Hi all! I just found this group today and joined! I think it is wonderful a support group for rosacea exists! I was just diagnosed a month ago with rosacea (although it is pretty mild) but it is still distressing. I am a 30y.o. female with very fair skin. I am currently using Metrocream but it is making my skin very dry even though I use moisturizer. I am a skin care product junkie so I will post from time to time if I find any products that work for my all-too-sensitive skin and would like to hear from others who have any luck with cleansers, moisturizers, facial masks, sunscreens, etc. Thanks!! Guest guest
Hi , And welcome to the group! I use Metrolotion, and I have dry skin. Perhaps you can give that a try. I too am a makeup junkie. One great product I use is Revlon's Even-Out foundation in the tube. It's sheer, SPF 20, with titanium dioxide & zinc oxide. On days when I need more coverage I put heavier foundation over it. I can get it at Shoppers Drug Mart (in Canada) and it's also available in vitamin and health food stores. It contains the following ingredients: L-Lysine Vitamin A Vitamin D Vitamin E Base of: Olive Oil Beeswax Goldenseal Extract Propolis Extract Calendula Echinacea Zinc Oxide Cajeput Oil Tea Tree Oil Gum Benzoin Honey Lithium Carbonate It's made by Quantum Inc (they have a website) and it's called Super Lysine Plus+ Cream. It's a tiny little tube for about $11.00 Canadian dollars. A lot of the base ingredients are good for skin problems anyway - Calendula, etc. This cream is generally sold as a cure for herpes, but L-Lysine works on all connective tissue and skin, so it might work for some rosacea sufferers. I'm also taking L Lysine capsules internally but I'm not sure they'll do anything. > > I've never heard of a link between rosacea and > flouride toothpaste. > Theoretically, you should get the same results if > you stop brushing for a > day? Yes I guess in theory if you stop brushing your teeth for a couple of days you'd probably see a difference. Or just brush your teeth with plain water or something. I personally think rosacea is like an allergy, and we all have different triggers, so it might not be one of your triggers. But it certainly seems to be one of mine. Guest guest
Patty, I plan to order samples of the Jane Ireland Amazing Base. Is this the same item as the loose powder listed on the website? They list Neutral, Warm, and Cool Shades -- three tones within each. Which have you found best? Thanks, a Re: New to Group >Brie > >You should definately try the tinted Zinco Cream. Guest guest
Hi, Metrogel didn't help me at all either and it sounds like that derm was pretty bad. There aren't a lot of them out there who can help with this disease unfortunately. I've made almost a complete turnaround myself with following suggestions that I've seen in this group. It's useful to go through the archives and read the messages that Drs. Sy and Nase have written about rosacea. I believe what they have said because my redness has almost gone completely away. About the antiaging products you mention, I can't use any of them myself because they irritate my skin and make the rosacea worse. Some people on the list have been able to use retin a and salicylic acid without too much irritation. You really have to see for yourself by testing the products out at separate times on your face to see if they do no harm to the rosacea. About the glycolic acid, it might be a good idea to stop it completely. I used a 4% solution for a few months when they first came out about 7 years ago. The first few weeks, they were like a miracle and cleared up the bumps and pinkness I had. A few months later I had a permanent redness and itchy, burning skin. Some women have posted that they have had similar experiences with alpha hydroxy products too. 40% must burn your sking right off too! About topical vitamin C, I've found none that work for me. They seem to be in the same league as the alpha hydroxy acids for me. It might be better to stop all those irritating topicals for a while until you can get your skin under control and redness-free. That is the most important aspect of getting your skin to look normal again. It's like a vicious cycle. Once the skin is irritated by one topical, it gets worse if you put on more topicals that irritate it also until everything you put on your skin irritates it. You need to soothe your skin with a gentle cleanser and mild moisturizer. Again, the archives have listings of those that seem to help a majority of us. Of course the best antiaging thing to use on your face that also helps rosacea is sunblock. Some people on this list use Dr. Sy's ZincO Cream which has an spf 20. The bonus with this product is that is has microfine zinc oxide which shields you from the full spectrum of damaging UV light and it helps soothe rosacea. ZincO hasn't worked for all of us though. I know some people have used Clinique's City Block spf 15 and are very happy with how it soothes the skin while protecting them from the sun. Other things I do for my skin is to take an otc antihistamine daily because it seems to stop the redness in it's tracks. Also, aspirin, otc anti-acid medication like Tagamet and grapeseed extract have worked wonders for me to stop the redness in its tracks. Antibiotics didn't help me either. Lastly, it's good to find out what your triggers are. Are they certain foods or getting overheated through exercise or wearing too warm clothes? I can't emphasize how important it is to look through the archives and see what suggestions have worked for us. It has really helped tremendously! Good Luck! Guest guest
Ditto Matija on the topicals, antihistamine, and zinco. A combination of finding non-irritating topicals, anti histamine, aspirin and zinco has gotten me really under control, no more bumps or itching! and way less redness.
