Guest guest
Hi Janice and welcome. Sorry to hear about your post op issues. WOW! How did the salad cause a twisted bowel. I weat salads daily. EEEKS!!!!! Really, I am quite concerned after reading your post. I don't know your age or other info but I too would like to lose more weight and it just isn't happening. My doctors have told me I won't lose any more weight because of my menopause and thyroid issues. My total weight loss was 141 in 13 months. I went from a size 26/28 and now wear a size 8. I need a size or two bigger in tops because of my massive batwings. Have you ruled out metabolic problems? I would suggest you log everything you eat and increase your exercise. You may not lose pounds on the scale but you may see more muscle tone and the loss of inches, which can give you a slimmer appearance. Most of all be proud that you maintained your weight loss. That is the biggest victory of all! Robyn > > Hi Everyone! My name is Janice and I had gastric bypass surgery > almost six years ago. Guest guest
Welcome to the group!!! You are the kind of inspiration I like to hear about. My worries was never loosing the weight but maintaining the weight for the rest of my life. The only thing I can add to what Roby has already responded to is to get back to the basics...Protein, Protein, Protein...and excercise. We hold protein and excercise trians on this message board all the time. We then post our daily results so we can support each other. It helps and it works. Maybe on of the other members that are further out may have some insight also. I'm only 7 months out myself. Guest guest
Well done on your weight loss Janice. Glad to have you in the group. Australia 321/253/176 Have Lots to Share! Hi Everyone! My name is Janice and I had gastric bypass surgery almost six years ago. I have lost a total of 110 lbs and have maintained the loss ever since! The only major complications I had was directly following the surgery with some intestinal internal bleeding. This year, I had a twisted intestine/obstructed bowel after eating a salad, but luckily didn't have to have surgery as the obstruction cleared itself after 48 hours of no food or water (only IV). My quality of life has dramatically changed, all for the good. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I was one of the lucky ones who had very little vomiting and nausea after surgery. My biggest problem has been dumping. Even recently, certain foods make me very queasy such as certain carbs and starches and, believe it or not, chicken. I have developed a severe milk/dairy product intolerance, although cheese sits well with my stomach. I went from a size 26 in clothes down to a size 14 and am very satisfied with the end results. However, I would really like to drop another 20 lbs but am having a tough time doing so. Any suggestions out there? Has anyone else had problems with eating salad and twisted intestines? I look forward to talking to everyone! Janice
Guest guest
Thank you! I feel great and look 100% better than I did several years ago. I am 47 years old and haven't felt this energetic and looked this young in many, many years. GBS was the best thing I ever did for MYSELF! There is a warning for the guys and gals who are just starting the GBS thing - Not everyone is going to lose weight and go down to a size 0! My starting weight was 289-lbs and I now weigh in at 179. I was a size 26 (snug) and now am a comfortable size 14. I will never be a size 5 or 7 and that is ok! The doctor who did my surgery is located in Hackensack, NJ and did a great job. However, I was not happy with his office and follow-up treatment. I did the recovery basically on my own, learning about nutrition and exercise as I went along. His office constantly cancelled my appointments and they did not have a nutritionist on staff. I never had that " thumb sized " stomach afterwards. I was able to drink 2-oz. of broth the day after the surgery and now can eat approximately 8 - 10 oz. of food at mealtime, which equals about the size of a lean cuisine dinner. Again, it depends on what I am eating too. If it is pasta, I eat a saucer- sized portion as opposed to a dinner plate full. I have a very difficult time eating breakfast, no matter what the food may be. Eggs can make me very ill. Forget about pancakes or waffles and bagels are enough to kill me! And since I am now milk intolerant, cereal is a rarity for me. I can tolerate a half of a sandwich or a piece of cheese in place of the normal breakfast foods. But, hey.... I'm thinner, healthier and looking better than ever! One more thought before I close for now ...... Even though you may lose 100+ lbs, in many instances, you will always still see yourself as overweight! Most of us have lived through life full of criticism and crude remarks about our weight (i.e. " she has such a pretty face, too bad she doesn't lose some weight " ) and have a tough time seeing the new and improved person we have become. Like I said earlier, it has been almost 4 years for me since my surgery and I still have days where I look at myself and cry because I will never be able to put on a bikini or can't stand the saggy skin (which was very minimal for me). On those days, I count my blessings instead of my misfortunes. The surgery changed my life. I have a new outlook on life and celebrate every day! I'm very proud of my accomplishments and would do it all again in a heartbeat! Best wishes to everyone who is just starting the process and congrats to those who have succeeded! Guest guest
Hi Janice - Welcome to the group! Congratulations on the weight loss and maintaining it. My only suggestion to drop the 20 pounds would be to change up your exercise routine and go back to the basics of eating protein first, vegetables, fruit, and water. Guest guest
I don't think pancake, waffles or bagels will ever be on our breakfast menu again. At least not for me. I'd rather have my protein than waste my meal on all those carbs! Yogurt or a protein shake are about the only things I tolerate well for breakfast. W 380/312/160 Ima Winner wrote: > Thank you!
