Guest guest
I hit a plateau early on, too, at about 2 or 3 weeks post-op, and it lasted for several weeks. Then I lost some more weight, and now I am stuck again for the last few days. I asked the surgeon about how I am doing so far, and he said I am doing good, and make sure to exercise, because that is the key to long term success. Guest guest
Barb, its frustrating, but it will come off, I know how you feel, I have been there... especially when we are trying to get over a hump. keep your head up. Barb Thayer wrote: I am so with you there sister, last week I was positng about this and I was discouraged. SO very, very discouraged. I was told that there was no way that I can gain weight, by my doctor. But I think that he just lied to me. Yesterday I weighed 301, today I am at 303. I know that I am a bad girl and should only weigh once a week. I had my surgery 1 month ago today (7-31) and wanted to be under 300. I just want to be normal sized. I have just been exhausted and I called the program director today and she asked how I am doing with my water and I told her that I was getting my water in about 60 % and she said that was why I was so tired and why my weight loss is slowing down. How are you doing with water. I understand where you are and I feel how you are feeling. Guest guest
Well I havent had my surgery yet and these are some things that I know about weighing myself. First of all, are you weighing at the same time every day? With exactly the same clothes on or naked? Seriously, I can go pee and lose a pound lol. I would think that possibly weekly weigh ins would be better than trying to weigh every day. You just had surgery, that is bound to have something to do with minor fluctuations. As they say in recovery groups, give yourself a break. You have done something so valuable for yourself. Liz
Guest guest
Thanks so much to everyone who replied. Normally, if I am dieting, I don't sweat 1 lb here or there, but this is post surgery (two and 1/2 weeks post surg) and I can't even imagine HOW I could have gained anything, let alone not show a loss, considering how little I am eating. I am drinking about 28 oz of water and tea a day (no cream or sugar, just a splash of skim milk and a splenda) and am not due for a " cycle " for another 2 weeks (if I get one at all). Anyway, I did call my dr's office, and they told me not to worry -- it happens sometimes -- but I just have this sneaking suspiscion that this - in addition to all the other diets I've tried in my life, is failing me already too. I know, i have to shut those " tapes " off in my head! Guest guest
, I came home from the hospital almost 10 lbs. heavier. weight loss was slow and some days I saw weight gain, but true to the other people's experience, once I increased my water, the weight came off. Pain meds also can cause the scale to tip higher. You will hear this over and over again, just focus of being healthier. The more I walk - more like stroll - the more I lose. Chin up, shoulders back, head high, you will be great! Guest guest
Mike - that is beautiful! Thank you for a true perspective. I'm going to put this on my refrigerator - as a reminder of what is important!. Sue ______________ Try qualitative measures. How do you feel today, this week, overall? Are you able to be more physically active? Focus on goals of protein and fluids. With my food diary I would get really into those numbers for fun. Those numbers are a bit more immutable than a person's weight. Some other quantifiable measure you could use are clothing size decreases, notches on a belt, heck even shoe sizes (mine shrank eventually). Now these all take more time. Have some patience. Everyone says you can plateau at anytime. Maybe you have. I hate to say it but I don't really know if I've ever plateaud or not because, again, I don't keep real accurate track of my weight number-wise. That is somewhat frustrating when someone asks me how much I've lost. I usually just respond " Oh about X pounds " and they seem happy with that. I mean really, what are they asking? Since surgery? Since my heaviest? Since last month? What? It's all nonsense conversation. What isn't nonsense are the comments of, " You're looking great " , " keep up the good work " , and at the earlier stages like when I returned to work two weeks after surgery, " Wow you're back to work already? Are you sure you're okay to do that? Yeah? Well it's nice to have you back. " I'll try not to be snide but if you really want to lose one pound there are ways to do that quickly but they might not be healthy. Concentrate on your recovery and overall health/diet not your pounds. Mike in GR
