Guest guest
Hi Debra, I really think that if we have many of the symptoms you described, we shouldn't always just chalk them up to fibro. If you have chest pain or your left arm goes numb or hurts with the chest pain or any of the other symptoms of a heart attack you should still be checked out. With bowel symptoms, I have IBS, but I still go for a colonoscopy to have it checked out, because caused by fibro or not, it can still lead to other serious things. The same goes for any other of our ailments. I had numbness and tingling in my arms and hands for a while with fibro, but one day it got so that I couldn't hold on to many things and I was dropping things, such as my purse or shopping bag. I went to the neurologist and it turned out I had ruptured two discs in my neck and needed surgery badly or I was going to lose the use of one of my arms and hands. The surgery corrected the problem, but because of fibro I still get some of the numbness and tingling like I had before the surgery. Just now, around Christmas, I thought I had the fibro flu. Had all the symptoms and so didn't go to the doctor. I just waited it out. When some friends were visiting me one day they said I really looked sick and I replied with my normal it just the fibro. They convinced me to call and make an appt with my doctor who saw me right away. I had a sinus infection, bronchitis and pneumonia in both lungs. I needed two bags of IV fluids and have been on antibiotics ever since and am having a hard time trying to beat it. I'm really sick and have to talk to the doctor every other day for him to determine if I need to go to the hospital. I think mainly because I live alone. I really don't want to go to the hospital. If I had gone in sooner I may have caught it while it was still bronchitis or maybe not, but anyway I think we should all pay attention to our bodies and have any symptom checked out that is new or even ongoing like the IBS. Because I think you are right that we would never know if we had something else wrong if we don't go to the doctor for some things. Take care of yourself, Marti I think sometimes that I would never know if I had something else wrong instead of FM. I have so many symptoms with fibro that I would probably chalk it all up to that. Alot of people here have chest pain with fibro. They have numbness and tingling of various areas. We have pain almost anywhere at anytime.
