I have been taking Lyrica since July, I am on a low dose, only 150 mg a day

and I have gained 10 pounds, have an incredible appetite and get extremely

hungry quickly and have to eat, very strange, I have never had that happen

before. My hands are swollen all the time, and I don't think the drug works that

great for pain. I am afraid to take more of it, because i am afraid that I

will eat myself to death...lol

It is a strange med,

Kris

I've been taking Lyrica for about 3 months I think. I gained weight

but it was during a 10 day prednisone period so I attributed it to

that. I also was horribly hungry during that 10 days. I've lost

about five lbs of the 15 I gained.

It did work better on a higher dose. I'm on 450mg per day. The

dizzyness is what I noticed the most with the lyrica. I've changed so

many meds around the past few months its hard to tell what side

effects belong to what.

Hey Holly,

Seems we have a lot in common!lol I'm in NC,I'm bi-polar,and I've

been on Lyrica for about 4 months now. I'm at 450mg a day. I don't

like it and I'm going to see if my Psychiatrist won't put me back on

nuerotin tomorrow.

For me,it's not helped the pain at all. I stay hungry and I have

strange food cravings too - sweets and salty foods! Before I had

started taking it, I had lost over 75 lbs and I've gained back about

20lbs since I've been on it. It also makes my hands and ankles swell.

I can't say much about it helping my depression either.

Different drugs work for different people. I hope that it does more

for you than it has me. I'll be thinking about you.

Holly,

I take Lyrica and have for 3 months now. It was really rough the first

month, made me so nauseous anytime I ate. I hated it. The second

month, I had zero side effects. My pain has been under control until I

had a bad flare due to the cold weather fronts coming through Texas.

My docs have me on Tramadol 3 times a day on top of the Lyrica and

it's been wonderful for me. My flare was being set off by weather and

severe acid reflux. Lyrica can cause muscles to spasm worse but that

was not my problem. If you notice any problems, call your doctor and

let them know. I take Elavil at night for Anxiety and Major

Depression. Lyrica has not made my depression worse. I feel good. I

hope it works for you, too. : 0 )

You can always email me with questions or if you just want to chat.

1. While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as

to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr.

Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to

certain health conditions or just dangerous in general.

2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be

afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation

better.

3. To unsubscribe the e-mail is:

Fibromyalgia_Support_Group-unsubscribe

4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the

same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something

another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member

may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal

with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense

of humor.

5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let

us know so that we can do our best to offer our support.

Have a nice day everyone.

Hi Holly,

I also have Bipolar disorder and I take Lithium and wellbutrin and have for

many years...I am now on Lyrica as well and I have not gained ANY weight,

and I gain easily, nor has is made my depression worse or caused any.. I

have BP 2 so I tend to get depressed more than manic. I have not heard or

read where depression is one of the side effects so maybe the people who

have, have gotten depressed from their situation..

My only side effect so far is sleepiness..BUT, it is getting better and it

sure helps me sleep really well at night. I sleep like a log on this and I

have never been able to sleep all night until now.. I hope that " side effect

stays;-) I have a problem with water retention and so far since taking this

I have had NONE...I don't know if it is the med or not, but so far no water

retention.. (PS: that is where the weight gain comes from)...

I have had little dizziness, but nothing major, just get up slowly if you

do have it.. It is like when you get up really fast and get a " head rush " ..I

have only had a little a couple of times..

You have to take it to see how it is going to work for you as everyone is

different and meds work differently on everyone..Don't be afraid to take it,

just start on it during the weekend when people are around you to make you

feel more safe...That's what I did.. Most people I have heard from have had

good results with Lyrica and I have as well. I am not pain free, but it has

made a difference..

Yesterday I fell, but it was not the meds fault..lol..I tripped on my own

pants when my shoe caught the bottom of my jeans..and BOOM BAM...oh I hurt.

I should be in a lot more pain from that this morning and I'm not and I do

believe it is the lyrica that is helping..I twisted a lot of body parts on

that fall..LOL...

So give it a try, and give it a good couple weeks or more unless you do have

side effects that are really bothersome... But I think you will be ok;-)

I went to the rheumotologist today. I finally got a prescription for

lyrica. Since I now have insuranse. I have some concerns some horror

stories I have heard and wondered if any one could answer them. I have

heeard that it causes depression, not good for me because I am bipolar,

Also heard it cause weight gain which I have gained lots of weight from

inactvity due to pain. I also heard it can cause severe dizziness that

may cause falls. Do the benefits outweigh the cons in anyones opinion?

I appreciate any input you have.

Thanks
