My hands are horribly dry lately and they look like aligator skin if I don't

keep lotion on them. Just a question, do you have problems with your cuticles

tearing and cracking????

I do. My nails always look bad from the ridges and the horrible cuticles that

are not intact.

Can't seem to win during the cold weather. Even though I try to put

hand lotion on my hands often, still get skin cracks on my fingers and

lots of little paper cuts on my knuckles. Especially pinky knuckles. Do

use Nexcare skin crack relief but that doesn't always help those. Since

I am on a diuretic have to wash my hands often in the bathroom, too.

Anyone else have this dang problem? It's frustrating.

Hi Deb,

No, don't have problems with my cuticles. Do push them back on my

hands. Also have some ridges in my nails. My husband gave me Vaseline

intensive care which I use often. Have to buy more soon though.

I know this sounds funny but have you tried Bag Balm? You should be

able to find it in the drug stores. It was originally used on dairy

cattle's well, bags. It has the consistency of vaseline but heals so

well. Also surgeons secret stays water proof a long time. I use to

quilt and do handwork and they both really help. Neda

P.S.

Yes my hands are in terrible shape they are so dry and cracking but I

think I have found the answer. I bought some Neutrogenia hand lotion

which is really more of a balm. It is in a tube. I also found

something called Aquaphor healing ointment which is also in a tube.

I keep one on the kitchen level and one on the bedroom level. I

should pick one up for the rec room level also as I'm always needing

it when I'm down there and ordinary hand lotion doesn't work anymore,

my hands are too dry. The cuticles are a mess also but this seems to

help. Actually the Aquaphor is in a small tube so I could carry it

around with me. I found them both in the CVS drugstore. Do you have

them down there? Probably any drug chain would have them.

I have used lotrimin for athlete's foot on my hands to heal the dry, cracking,

pealing of skin. sometimes you can get a fungus infection on the fingers/hands

and it causes this. maybe try it and see. I put mine on and wear rubber gloves

at night. Hope this helps.

My oldest daughter is having terrible red, chapped hands this winter. I've

been buying various healing lotions to try on my psoriasis, so she's using

them, but they cause her skin to burn for several minutes until the lotion

is absorbed. I remember my sister had similar problems in her teens. She

would go to bed with vaseline on her hands and wear cotton gloves over them.

My daughter wasn't too thrilled with that idea.

Anyway, I hope you can get some relief, Debbie. Those cracks and cuts

are nasty, too. Take care.

Thanks Neda!

Will look for it at the store. Wonder if it is similar to Udder

Cream. My Eucerin Aquaphor is like vaseline too but it's expensive.

Yes we have CVS. Also I remember using Aquaphor on my son when he was a baby...

we used it for diaper rash. It is pretty good stuff. I might try it.

Thanks mom, (smiles)

yes. I do. I was wondering why my hands looked so dry and cracked and my nails

are splitting and peeling. Is the Fibro causing it too? It seems like I learn

something new everyday from this group. I can't thank you all enough for

sharing.

Udder cream is O.K. but is more of a creamy base. The Bag Balm is so

very healing. Neda

I've been getting those too! I use a whole slew of hand creams and

lotions (avon lady here) so that helps. Plus putting on some kind of

good thick creamy hand lotion before bed helps.

In the winter I have to have udder balm the kind you get from the tractor Supply

company. It is the cream kind. Best stuff they make. To me that is the true

form.

Speaking of, I saw some hand cream sized tubes of that at the dollar

store (Dollar Tree) last month. I'll have to look and see if they still

have some!
