Guest guest
Is there anyone that is living with IBS w/constipation and what have you found that helps you? I have suffered from this since i was still in school! I'm 45 now and it is very severe!! Talk about this ruing your life and very much limiting what you can do and when!! I was taking Zelnorm b/4 they pulled it off the market:( and it was helping! I have alot of burning, sharp pains and bloating to the point of looking like i am 9mo.preg. and ready to deliver any second! This is extremely uncomfortable to say the least including very painful! The bloating and rumbling, gurgling, growling, and actually hearing the foods and liquids move through my body are also very loud and embarrassing when being around people (i call it Talking Gut Syndrome)! It is also strange that i can feel it as it travels down and around inside me and it is actually visible to see the movement! You could put your hand on my stomach and it feels like a baby kicking when you're pregnant?? Unbelievable! I have measured my stomach at it's most swollen point and it measured 38 inches around! Take into consideration that i only way 120lbs and a normal measurement is 26 inches!! You can see the painful difference!! Has anyone experienced this?? If so please explain!! Thanks,Syndi ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I can totally relate to all you wrote! Here is how I cope: Regular fiber therapy seemed to make me more bloated and blocked feeling. I eat Kashi oatmeal or Kashi go lean bars for breakfast, they contain a good amount of fiber but that can result in the evening bloat and gas. I try to have more fruits and veggies, but I'm bad about not getting nearly enough of those. Baby steps though. Lots of Water. I notice if I drink a soda, I won't 'go' the next day. I've cut my sodas to weekends only. Exercise, even if you lay on the floor and just stretch things while watching tv. Even a little bit helps. It helps put things into motion. When things really need help, I like Garden of Life - Super Seed - Beyond Fiber. It doesn't give instant or overnight results, but it helps things move along more naturally. But it gives me that evening time gas and bloating. If I really need help I'll do milk of magnesia at bedtime. Thanks,Syndi > Hi Syndi, I can so relate to what you're going through! I have suffered from IBS with constipation for the last 28 years. I use magnesium tablets to help with mine. My doctor put me on B12 shots and magnesium to help with my migraines and the magnesium also helped with the constipation. She started me at 500mg the first day and added 500 mg a day until I had a good bm. That's was when my body was saturated and excreted any excess magnesium. I now take 500 mg a day, with an occasional extra one or two tablets if I feel I'm starting to get backed up. This has been amazing for me. I used Zelnorm and liked it; alas, not available anymore. Amitiza didn't really do it for me and is really expensive even with my insurance...it's the highest co-pay on my three tier plan. This has been the best solution for me and it's a lot cheaper than prescriptions and has no side effects. I hope this helps. > ________________________________________________________________________\ ____________ > Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I have the same problem. The best is Magnesium Citrate. Its clear and very sour but you can swear by it anytime. Or the new on the shelve Mira-lax. That may take a couple of days. The Magnesium is the best . I take big swallows and shudder a little but the relief is aswesome and quick results. Guest guest
I take magnesium oxide 250mg tabs with each meal which help. Today bought Miralax for days when I don't get much fiber. Guest guest
Hi Syndi, I was blessed with ibs with C and D. I take levbid (i forget the generic name). It is an antispasmotic. When the dr asked me about constpation I told him I eat dairy for it. I am lactose intoleant so the constipation I get from my meds and ibs allows me to eat my no no foods. Ice cream, pizza, cheese, chocolate, all those great comfort foods. Because I also get diaheorriah There are many foods I can't eat or at least if I'm not at home. Sometimes the pain is herendous but we all know about pain. JudyMer ---- Syndi wrote: > Is there anyone that is living with IBS w/constipation and what have you found that helps you? Guest guest
, I'm glad you have been tested. It is amazing how many people do have celiac disease - I had never heard of it before I was diagnosed. Celiac first then fibro. Margaret B > >> >> , >> Have you ever been tested for Celiac Disease? Guest guest
Hi, all, I have severe motility problems, both in my esophagus and " down under. " One of the things that helps the constipation the most is exercise. A walk around the block is sometimes even enough to get things " moving. " Fiber is also real important for me, as is not eating too much in one sitting. One funny story...I've had to have several esophageal studies. The last one I had showed worsening problems, and I was asked to work with a swallow therapist. At the end of the session, she told me that, if I'm out eating, it'd be best for me to have someone with me who knows the Heimlich maneuver (I run the risk of choking, even on liquids). This struck me as funny, and I laughed and said, " Oh, that's a great opening for dating. If a guy asks me out to dinner, the first thing I have to ask is, 'I'd love to, but do you know the Heimlch maneuver?' " The poor therapist! She looked very pained and said, " Uh...are you all right? " I laughed again and said, " You know, I could take this situation one of two ways, and I choose to see the humor in it. " She shook her head, still looking very worried! Guess some people just have no sense of humor! Good weekends, all! Maureen Pratt **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Guest guest
Hello, Maureen..... Wow....I like your post...it is " GREAT " !!!! Even showed it to my husband..... I too have a lot of problems, " down under " .... and people simply do not want to believe me..... S.S.D. thinks I can still get a part-time job...... HELLO....when the " shi-- " start, I am on the toilet for 3-4 hours.....no tell me....who is going to hire me???? Anyway, I hope this little note makes a few more people laugh.....and I hope everyone has a better day tomorrow. With me, I take it one day at a time..... Luv to all.... Guest guest
Well you obviously have a great sense of humor. That was really funny. I have some of those problems with swallowing and choking too. My kids want me to wear one of those Life Line things around my neck since I live alone, but I'd be dead if I was choking before anyone would get here. So I'm not wearing one yet. Good for you for seeing the humor in things. I need to go back to doing that myself. I've gotten sidetracked. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your story about the Heimlech manuver. I have problems swallowing big pills. They often get lodged half way down. Takes much water to get them to move down my throat. Need to ask someone what are they lodging on!
