Guest guest
Hi. I don't know what to call you because you didn't sign a name to your post. I did a search of your posts and this is your third post. Several people did respond to in the past. Please don't feel neglected. Sometimes new or quiet members can be overlooked because others are simply more active or familiar to the members and ehave established chatter between them. In fact, because of my busy schedule I am scarce around here and sometimes many of the new members don't know I founded the group! We are here to help everyone. Would you mind sharing a first name with us so we can get to know you better. Please feel free to introduce yourself and share some background re your quest for Weight Loss Surgery. If you [or anyone else] doesn't receive a reply to your question or concern, please feel free to repost again. Sometimes our board is hopping and posts can be overlooked, especially because of this crappy new Yahoo format. Welcome to the group and know that everyone is a valued member of our support group. Guest guest
Hey, Friend, I know sometimes it feels like we are on the outside looking in and no one is " listening " , but let me assure you, there are people who care on this site. I don't post too much yet, because most of the time I am too busy reading and trying to keep up with all the e-mails! I have been approved by insurance and am waiting for my surgeon's office to call with a surgery date, probably mid to end November. It has taken me sometime to get to a place of decision to have WLS. I weigh 220 lbs and and 5 feet 3 and a half inches tall. To some people that's not so bad and they say I could lose the weight if I would just eat right and exercise. Been there, done that, doesn't stay off. I know this is weird, but I feel guilty, almost, that I don't weigh enough. I have had people tell me that I am not fat. Trust me, I am obese, but my main reason for going forward with plans for WLS, really stems from Diabetes. I take 2 shots of insulin a day and oral medication. Even with these interventions, I still have to eat very little carbs to keep my sugars down. My doctor won't do my surgery if certain lab work is too high. Any way, I'd like to say welcome to you and please, just jump in, the water is fine. Sometimes this site is so busy, it may take a while for someone to answer your e-mails. Guest guest
Debbie: You and I are in the same boat (I'm 5'2 " & 210). I get it alot " you don't have to lose that much " - today it was the ultrasound tech. I had my stress test done today and it explained all. I am heavy in the middle - my lung capacity is limited, which makes it uncomfortable to exercise. Everything else is great. I have always wanted to be an aerobics instructor - after WLS maybe next year! Still trying to get the diabetes in control. My endo MD will evaluate me in a month - I thought they were fine, but she really wants me at a good point before surgery. So I think I maybe looking at surgery in October :>( My struggle with weight loss started after my diagnosis with Diabetes. It is harder to lose weight with it...I am always afraid of a low blood sugar reaction so I eat. Looking forward, but now I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Guest guest
I have sleep apnea and that was one of the reasons they wanted me to have it. Not sure why they tell her that, I would ask other doctors for their opinion on this one. a Marquardt wrote: How many of you had to have plastic surgery after you met your WLS goal??? I am just curious. I know I need to do something but I am very reluctant. Guest guest
a in PA, This topic has been discussed quite a bit lately. You are not alone in your fear of having to have plastic surgery (PS) after the weight loss, but I really don't understand these fears some of you have about the plastic surgery. Personally, I would rather have excess skin hanging off of my body than the extra fat that has a negative impact on my health. Now, I'm not against PS and will likely have a breast reduction/lift and a tummy tuck provided the alternatives do not work for me. Everyone's body is different and the skin's elasticity differs. For some, due to genetics, age, and/or length of obesity, the excess skin was minimal. For others, with exercise and weight training, the excess skin was minimized. I've also heard of others using creams and lotions that increase the skin's elasticity. Just some thoughts to consider and hopefully reduce your fear of losing weight and having excess skin. As for the sleep apnea, I didn't have that issue, but I know many on this board did, so perhaps you will gain some insight from them. in Virginia 299/226/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 wondering How many of you had to have plastic surgery after you met your WLS goal??? Guest guest
I too, have sleep apnea (I sleep with the C-Pap every single night of my life too) and I am hoping that WLS will cure it once I get to my healthy weight. Guest guest
Thats curious that they told her that about her sleep apnea. My sleep apnea was one of my qualifiers to have the surgery. Who told her this? I'd bet it was someone who is against the surgery. To answer your question about plastic surgery, it depends on your age and the amount of skin that you have left hanging. There are other factors that will affect the skin bounceback as well including exercise. Some people have to have it, others don't and others just live with it. I'm figuring on having at least a breast lift and a tummy tuck next year. I've lost 100 in the past year and have another 100 to go. D 6/13/06 - Dr. R. Guest guest
, I had the CPap for only 6 weeks post op before I'd lost enough weight to pitch it to the curb! I sleep well and don't snore or stop at all now. It was the first major thing that changed post op. D 6/13/06 - Dr. R.
