Guest guest
You probably didn't ruin everyone's night since they are most likely used to everything by now and accept you for the person you are, FM and all. My niece in law has narcolepsy, migraines, allergies and a host of other ailments. We are used to her and just let her do what she has to do to be comfortable and do our own thing as well. She is not the main focus of our get togethers, well or ill. It is not all about her. Ruthie
Guest guest
Hi caroline, thanks for your reply. No I have not tried klonopin, but am going to look in to it. Thanks for the suggestion. Iv not had that many panic attacks so Iv never heard of the maneuver. It only happens when the pain is so bad I cant take it anymore. Then I FREAK OUT, the xanex seem to calm me down but obvilosly dont help the pain. anyways thanks for caring, hugs~ > I'm really sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience. Guest guest
Hi Marti, thanks for replying. The xanex did help after i calmed down and actually tried breathing, I was ok, still in alot of pain but I could manage. I ALWAYS have breakthru pain. my meds just dont do it anymore.Itjust feels like I always " ruin " everything. Im probally the only one who see it that way but I just keep disapointing myself and my kids. Thanks for caring. Guest guest
Actually, I find that the Xanax helps with the muscle spasms. When I was in the hospital from surgery the doctor had placed an order for Xanax for spasms because the bed and surgery together was going to be horrible. He was right. Guest guest
Hi Caroline, Klonopin is my wonder drug of choice too. Not for pain, but for all the reasons you describe. I take 1mg 3 to 4 times/day. The last one to sleep. I have CFS too, but I can get exhausted and not be able to sleep because I'm jittery inside, so I just take it every night and have for years. I find that I don't ever get actual panic attacks since I've been taking it. I can get anxious, but not have an attack. I had never heard of that maneuver before. I wonder why that works. Maybe because it focuses your attention so intently. Luckily I've never had any problem with it and my pscyiatrist doesn't have any qualms prescribing it (he doesn't prescribe pain meds) and it has never lost its effectiveness. I hope it never does. It definitely helps keep me on a more even keel. Take care, Marti Caroline Witte wrote: I'm really sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience. Have you ever tried Klonopin? I take it for both panic attacks and sleep. I also use it as a tranqiliser. It works SOO well for me. I've been taking it for quite a few years now, and sometimes I think it's my best friend. I usually take 1 mg for panic attacks and to sleep, but I can take 2 mgs if needed. If I'm just having a stressful day, and am 'jittery' from nerves, I take 1/2 mg. I don't use it every day, as I often have no trouble sleeping, (I have CFS, which means I tend to sleep too much at times.) However there are always those nights when I can't get to sleep, then I will take a Klonopin for it. For panic attacks I always take one as quickly as possible. When you have a panic attack do you use the manuever, I can't think what it's called, but you bear down as though you are trying to have a BM. You push for as long as you can, and then relax a few moments, if it isn't letting up, then repeat it. There IS a 'knack' to doing it, but I've never had an 'accident' yet while doing it. You can also try breathing into a paper bag, cos we always hyperventilate while we're having panic attacks. I can actually do both at once. Some people find that opiates actually bring on a panic attack. Luckily they have never done that to me, but there are people who are super-sensitive to them. I have met at least two people who have panic attacks when they use them. Anyway, if you've never tried Klonopin, you might ask your doctor about it. Some doctors are as reluctant to prescribe it as they are opiates. I guess it can be addicting too, or if you take it every day, your body will adjust to it, and you will have bad withdrawal symptoms. I've never had a problem with it, and know lots of people on this group take it too. Hope you're feeling better today. I doubt that your family thought you 'ruined' anything.
