, I have always questioned this. I wonder if the long term use of the

antideprssants has contributed to the fibromyalgia, or if it is just that the

same chemical imbalances that cause depression play a role in fibro also. I

will never know. So many unanswered questions. And in my case, I was diagnosed

with major depression for years and years before the fibro got me.

They think serotonin is the link, its whats in exercise that is good for us.. It

is what we are low in when depressed. It is what is in the anti depressants they

give us are made of.

its true the research shows its good for us but almost 90% of those studied

claimed it was a double edged sword, they felt " great " having done it but then

had to spend the next 3 days flat on their back getting over it, so often the

benefit was totally redundant to the pain afterwards LOL

The only thing that helps my trigger points is deep

tissue massage, but the pain just comes right back the

next day. I do alot of stretching which helps. Now I

have something wrong with my elbow so I have to get

x-rays. Fist doc thought it was an infection because I

was goofing around with my son and bonked his braces

with my elbow.......I was more worried that I broke

them. Sick of doctors!

Over the years I have tried all types of exercise. They all had the rebound

effect that Bonnie is talking about and generally made me worse.

I am checking into water exercise this week and want to check into Tai Chi for

people with arthritis, because it's good for the balance and people with

arthritis have to be careful like we do. So hopefully one of those will get me

back to exercising. I know I need it, but it surely is hard to either come up

with one that doesn't ruin the rest of my week or that I can actually get myself

to do.

I don't know if anti-depressants have anything to do with the

development of fibro but I have never taken even 1 and I have fibro.

You reminded me that I need to schedule a massage. What I would

really like is to have someone come to the house and do it so that I

would not have to drive home afterwards! You are so " loose " as

someone told me I should have told my insurance company when I had a

nasty accident minutes after a massage! But the thing that perhaps

we should remember about the effects of a massage is that it releases

so many toxins that they are probably what is causing the pain

afterwards. I know I drink as much water as possible and do try to

avoid any caffine for a while after a massage. And it would be very

nice if I could find a massage therapist who got to know my body as

well as the first one did! When she would work on the area around my

sterum, which would often be the source of my greatest pain back

then, she would have me yelling at it " GO AWAY, IT'S BEEN A NICE

VISIT, BUT IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO LEAVE!!! " Seemed that by verbizing

that with a loud yell while she let my body direct her hands was

amazing. The only time I had a major problem occur one Saturday when

I had not eaten and left her office with a headache brought on by the

lack of food --- I think there is a name for that but I can't

remember what it is --- just that those can be the worst headaches I

get at times.

But if the person you see for deep tissue massage has a private

space, ask them if you can yell at your body!!!! It was amazing how

that also aided in releasing the tightness that always seemed to

cause the sore muscles. I do realize it sounds nuts, and no one else

has suggested I do that, but since Jackie had her practice in a house

that had been turned in to office space and I would see her after

work, there was no one else around!

Oh, and by the way, despite the fact that the accident I was in that

December evening, I had no problems! I saw the white truck coming

straight for my little Saturn Coupe and he got hooked on the driver's

side mirror! I just threw up my hands and screamed! He was caught

on my car and had to back off! And I realize that there had to have

been a problem because he refused to let me call the police!!!

Jackie told me the next day that by letting go of the wheel and

screaming was probably what prevented me from having any injuries!
