Guest guest
> P.S. How has your pain been and have you heard anything more from your insurance company or WC? Dawn Nope, not another word except to tell me that I have to have a second opinion in Boston by a neurologist. However, thankfully the Dr they chose for me to see is a recommendation by MY pain clinic Dr who is requesting the SCS...so it improves my chances some. As of Monday the insurance company has denied my requests for the SCS, the stress counseling and my OT has discharged me as they dont see any improvement only a decline. So my appt on Tuesday the 12th with this Dr ought to prove interesting since I'll have been over a week without any hands on massage work. Anyway, hope you enjoy the cauliflower...I had it last night but I just cooked it up with butter and a little bit of garlic salt..mmmmmmm yum! Keep us posted on what your neurologist says. k? Guest guest
Thats wonderful Barb and I look forward to it! It is real cold in N.Y. this morning, but still do not have the heat on. I think if I put it on, it will kill me. Went to Moms yesterday and the minute I walked into her house, I thought I was going to die from the heat. I had to sit in front of the picture window with all the panes open. The heat just bothers me so much! I think it is a combination of the MS and RSD! I would do well living in an igloo! LOL and Good Thoughts! DawnBARBARA TORREY wrote: Thanks, Dawn. I hope that you start feeling better soon too. Re the recipes, with this extra time on my hands I should be able to pull a few out to share.dawn lorenz wrote: Barb, I think it is a great idea if some of us post ff recipes. I am actually going to be dieting soon, because part of controlling MS is a healthy diet, and when I was on steroids I gained almost 10lbs. Once I am feeling a little bit better I am going to try and start doing some type of exercises that will also help! I hope that you are feeling better soon and your meds get under control. I sure know what it is like to be all messed up on medications! Take Care and LOL Always! Dawn BARBARA TORREY wrote: Sounds good and worth trying. I also like the idea of posting recipes (Could we mark them as such ing the subject line?) Re weight issues, the one positive side of this lovely little SAME/myositis thingy is that since being pulled gradually from some of the meds I have lost 7.8 pounds in 11 (?) days. No complaints about that part. Heck, we haven't even gotten me totally off the culprit meds yet. Also, as of today I will go to half-days at work until I see the doc again on the 21st and "re-evaluate" again at that point. ALl of the med changes plus the addition of the new ones is making me and my body a bit whacko...Okay, not whacko just pretty amazed that I still have a pulse. My best to everyone here and I apologize (it's not an S word) for my not being as "visibly" involved here of late. I'm reading all of the posts just kinda feeling too punk to respond. BarbaraDonna wrote: I for one cannot wait to get Donna's recipe for cauliflower, cheese, mashed potatoes! Told Momma about them and she said UMM, UMM, GOOD!!!!!DawnThe recipe is very easy actually. You can use either frozen or fresh, whichever you prefer. Boil the cauliflower until it is soft enough to mash. Drain out the excess water and mash like you would for mashed potatoes. Add butter (or margarine) crushed garlic or in a pinch garlic salt along with salt and pepper per taste preference. Take shredded cheese (the cheezier the better) and blend in with the cauliflower. Serve nice and hot.Well let me know if you think it is a good idea! Just a thought to keep our minds off of the illness all the time! Sounds like a great idea. I agree ! so many people have been discussing foods from the North and South that I've certainly gained weight just reading LOLTake Care and Will Talk Later! I am going to call my neurologist now and see if any of the test results came back yet!Let us know how you make out with the neurologist!Hugs Donna
Guest guest
Donna, I hope that you are able to get some answers on Tuesday and the doctor is on your side! Your story is very similar to mine. The first doctor that WC sent me to was absolutely horrible and told the insurance company that I was 100% on my way to recovery, even knowing that I had another tear in my knee and needed a second surgery. He was also the one that evaluated me for the insurance company and said that I was 0% disabled. The second doctor they sent me to was a neurologist that was completely on my side and because of him I am recieving treatments on my back! Unfortunately he did not get to evaluate how disabled I am! I will tell you though, that when I went to my second doctor I did tell him that I hoped he was not a doctor that always sided with the insurance company, because I just wanted the right treatment and was not the type of person to use insurance company to get a settlement. He even said when I was leaving good luck and he wished that he could have treated me! I knew right then that I won! Take Care and My Thoughts and Prayers will be with you on Tuesday!!! LOL Always and look forward to dinner tonight! DawnDonna wrote: > P.S. Guest guest
Isn't coming on the 12th and 13th? That's next week (unless I'm more fried than I though I was). The other possibility would be for us to pick a halfway point. Boston would be a very long drive for me right now especially with the vision issues. Guest guest
Lin - It's a possibility but we're doing what we can to get things to a better point. Several weeks ago while I was in for my weekly cath check, I was seen by a doc who i had only run into on one other occasion. He raised my driving and after I explained that I didn't need a driver that day since I wasn't having a treatment, he started a major stink about my driving at all among other things. Well, this poop then made a note in my file and announced to the other docs in the group that I was no longer permitted to drive. I n response, they dropped the bomb on me several days after I returned from New Orleans that they had scheduled a driving assessment for me. It was supposed to occur last Friday but after I met with a different doc in the group who now assigned the job of switching my meds all around, he agreed that it would be unfair for me to have to go through this while I was having so many side effects. I'm scheduled to have the assessment on Nov. 3rd. I'll definitely fail the grip strength part but that would only mean by being temporarily "off-road" to have modifications made to my car. It is highly likely, however, that unless we can get my vision issues squared away, that I will fail the vision section as well. The vision stuff is pretty complex and the reasons for some of the visual difficulties may not be able to be remedied if they are due to something more then med effects (such as the myositis/SAME or as a delayed residual reaction to having had meningitis and brain surgery). We're trying. No way of knowing how I'll do re reaction time, but I'm sure that I'll pass the cognitive awareness section. If we can't get this all worked out....and I'm really hoping that we can get things worked out....I will likely have to stop working. As we yankees say, yuh can't get theah from heah. Guest guest
Barbara, I am so sorry that you are going through all of this! I know that if my eyes need to be tested again for driving I will fail miserably! I hope they never catch up with me. I do not drive far, probably only 20 miles a week, but that is an outlet for me and still feel it is a privlage. I do not like depending on someone else for everything! If I need to go to a doctors appointment or anywhere further than a couple of miles, my Mom usually brings me. I am lucky for that. I did lose alot of sight in my left eye when first diagnosed with the MS and it is permanent. Please let me know how you do and also know that I will say a prayer for you. Good Luck and Best Wishes! Guest guest
Your Right Tonia, Funnel Cakes, that is what called at least in Iowa.......was always the big deal at a Fair to have one of those....and very large also......I do not recall butter on them but do recall powdered sugar and even a cinnamon/sugar sprinkled on top of this also. They are very good but always way to much for me at a fair. Silly, but I can get dizzy just watching some on those spinning rides. Take care Tonia, know you need your rest. Guest guest
Okay now know it is about ,......BUT Ginny and I still are talking about trying to get Jeannie Holt, , Jeannie, Deb Ducote, Lori if can get fly to meet us as know drive would be to much most likely, and N. and S. Trica, Barb, Donna and anyone else that could meet ...that we would try and find place that is about halfway between North Carolina and where Barbara Lives and find interesting town so if able would enjoy walking and looking at stores. Also see what kind of Bed and Breakfast places are and hotel/motel and what offer and of course cost of both places. Then we could fill up room and split cost. Ginny and I even spoke of going to a grocery store and get things for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or tuna and pickle relish (if like) and make tuna sandwiches......get meat from deli and make sandwich etc. Point being that would be easy, not cost much and perhaps could eat out once but just of course not expensive....good be Mcs for all I care. For me I want to meet as many as can and if we should make the date to meet Latter Part of April or 1st part of May then all can start putting money back each month. Figured be nice weather then, gives us all time to save money, with winter coming soon to upper East coast do not think want to try Nov. or Dec. besides fact of Thanksgiving and of course Jesus Birthday, Christmas. So that is how got to end of April or first part of May. So all that might like this idea, and would want to try it, Ginny is going to be one looking for the place to meet and finding out about area. For me want to spend most time sitting around talking, looking at pictures and laughing, play cards if want. Just want to meet you all, know your face, feel a hug, so please give this a serious thought, whether think you would want to go, if not going till late April or first week in May, would give time to save money for splitting cost of driving (if that is a reasonable position to take) or saving for plane ticket, bus ticket and also saving for splitting cost of room which should have 4 in each room, and think food would not cost much if we do deli, peanut butter and or tuna....... Well that is my jump in.......Ginny, hope now that already did this, that is okay with you. Sometimes get to excited about things and talk before perhaps should so hope okay Ginny. Well all gave you something to think about. We have to make this a for sure thing. Take care all. JoAnn s Momma > > > > > Isn't coming on the 12th and 13th?
