Guest guest
Ok, I was thinking this morning in my Dr's office. As I sat there and looked at a poster about Lyrica..... guess what???? It was not created for FM. It was originally produced and tested for diabetic neuropathy and pain from Shingles... because it is " nerve pain " . They accidentally stumbled onto the use of this drug for FM because FM involves alot of nerve pain just as neuropathy does. So.... no one sat down and decided to make a drug for Fibromyalgia. They created a drug and happened to find out it would benefit us. Then they don't mention the diabetic neuropathy use. That would have been well and good for the public. It IS BELIEVABLE... but because it benefits us... Pzizer is just a money making bunch of liars. My gosh, WE CANNOT have a medication for an invisible illness????? What the hell were they thinking. Guest guest
---> > Gee, I wonder how many times over the years, a pharma company has worked hard to come up with a drug for a specific disorder and then awhile after it has been out there for the docs to prescribe, it has been discovered to help another disorder??? It's rather like the ingredient in one of the cough meds helps fibro patients. (sorry I can't spell that substance that starts with a g....) I do wish, though, that when someone discovered that duract helped dental patients after certain procedures, it was effective; the dental field would have given better info to their patients. It still makes me very MAD, 10 years later, that that medicine is no longer on the market! I have written here before that I could take ONE pill when I first got up and not have any pain all day!!! But the directions were that you could take one tablets 3 times a day for NO MORE than 10 DAYS. Dental patients either weren't following the directions or the dentists didn't read or get all of the adverse reactions (pull out the sheet that comes with some meds and see how much they cover --- how many people read the whole thing??? the sheets are, no doubt, shrunk very small and most people don't read all of the fine print.) And yes, I will admit, I have a personal bias as I have worked for drug companies in a number of different areas. I have to wonder how many millions of dollars are spent just testing a drug and then having it pulled!!! And once a drug is approved, the company still has to follow up with reports of adverse reactions --- I have typed some of those papers and they are very detailed, must be reported to the FDA and would also the same type agencies in other countries. I know we all think drugs are too expensive, but think about what does work --- I don't hear very many people saying " Thank goodness company XYZ spent all of that money developing this amazing drug!!! " Ok, I am getting down from my soap box again! > > --------------------------------- > Never miss a thing.
