Guest guest
I live in Chester, Illinois and I use my family doctor who is very knowledgeable and also a pain management clinic in Swansea, Illinois. It's across the bridge from St. Louis and and south of Belleville. Dr. Thom is a young guy, a pain specialist from the Mayo Clinic. He insists that narcotics do not help with fibro pain and we have experimented with different ones and I agree with him. He had me take methodone and it worked great for 4 days and then just quit. I am now back to the darvocet, a muscle relaxer and lyrica. Sometimes it helps and other times I have to just deal with it. There is a pain clinic in n I went to but the nuses were just horrible so I would not go back. Your experience might be different. If you find someone great or if I can help, let me no. It would be to trade info with someone so close. If I can do anything to help you, email me off-board. Used to live in sboro, six miles from Carbondale. Good luck in your search. That reminded me that it is probably time I start searching for one in Southern Illinois. I know of two " pain clinics " that I drive past when I am visiting there, but I have not really checked them out. I think the area I would want to concentrate on would be someone any where between Mt. Vernon Illinois and Paducah, Kentucky. St. Louis is where I plan to go to see my favorite " shrink " but that's really too far to drive if I have a sudden need for a fibro or pain management doctor. I am going to check the sites that I have seen while driving past them but if anyone lives in that area or knows someone in that area, I would appreciate any info. We will be in n, so that Carbondale is also a good choice. Thank you for any input. **************Start the year off right. I did send an email to one of the pain clinics between n and the Herrin area last night, will be interesting to hear what they say. As a native of Southern Illinois, and a grad of SIU, this is a move home and I really had not thought of which doctors we should check out! I could see my ex-brother-in-law in burg for minor things --- that's what I do if I am visiting and since he was just elected/appointed President of the Illinois Family Practice Docs, he may have some suggestions also. One of my cousin's lived west of sboro --- they built a house that was so hard to get to and when it flooded, they had to take a boat to get out and then would stay with friends in town. He was pretty wellknown in sboro as he owned Art Craft and he did ALL of the Applefest signage, and as his good friend Ed Heller said in his eulogy for , you could recognize a Odum painted Trucking truck as far away as Montana. While trucking was sold, I think the sign in Ed Heller's law office window is still one of 's signs. If it isn't too obvious, I miss very much. Thank you for the information --- ask your doctor if he has any suggestions, if you don't mind! Nice to know there is someone here that will be close when we move in June! Guest guest
, I live in Carbondale,IL. I have been lurking for several months. Reading the posts and gleaning info from them. The Rheumatologist that diagnosed me left as many of the good doctors did when the malpractice insurance got to high. I have been trying to find a good primary doc for some time now. There is a new rheumy in Carbondale, but my appointment isn't until Feb. 12 so don't know much about him. The other rheumy in town won't accept fibro patients. The only other one I know of is in Mt. Vernon. Donna H.

I know there was at least one and I almost think that I noticed one was no longer there when we were in So. Illinois at Christmas time. I suppose if nothing else shows up, I'll just give my ex-brother-in-law a call --- I never know if he appreciates a call or if he just takes them because he knows how much his granddaughters love their Aunt . That's probably not the reason, because I have seen him for minor things when I have been home --- he always manages to fit me in (that way we can say nasty things about his ex, my youngest sister!). And I do get along just as well as I ever did with his dad & step-mom as well as his mother --- don't know about his step- father as I have only met him twice, but his sisters, step-sisters and one of his step-brother's was the attorney who handled my mother's estate --- must have been fun for ! So mal practice has shot up again --- for all doctors in the state or just specific ones? I know years ago it was hard to find an ob-gyn because of mal-practice for them and that many were leaving the area. And I know one doc retired as the suits were piling up --- I kept telling everyone I knew for years that he was TOO OLD TO PRACTICE! Strange, a local hospital through him a big retirement party!!! I don't want a rhuematologist, last time I saw one in St. Louis years ago, he threw a fit because my records were at another office in the same practice and he refused to see me, even though he said the next time you have a bad flare call me. I may even see about a chiropractic clinic as I went to a good one here. Decisions, decisions! Are you a C'dale native? or a student? Or a student who never left???
