Guest guest
(I guess I have sleepy babies!) I am interested to know this - but I heard that if the mother had drugs during the birth, that the baby would be really sleepy for the first few weeks. I don't know how true that is. Have any of you had drugs during one birth and not during another? Have you seen any difference in the babies in the first few weeks of days? Guest guest
I had an epidural and before that the stuff they put in your IV, but Ethan was very alert and had no trouble breastfeeding...maybe enough time had passed between the drugs and his birth Jen << I can answer that one! With my first I had two shots of Demerol and he was born rather quickly, in hindsight, they shouldn't have given me the shots but I guess they figured he was my first and it would be awhile. He was very sleepy for about 3-4 days and by the time we left the hospital when he was 3 1/2 days old he was formula fed because we couldn't get him to nurse. I was told he was " refusing to nurse " he was " the kind of baby who wanted instant gratification and didn't want to work for the bm " I've since learned better so I was determined not to use any narcotics when in labor with my dd. I only had a few puffs of gas with her during transition and she was so alert when she was born people commented that she looked like a 3 month old. She never had a problem latching on and wasn't " sleepy " like Arran. >>
