Hi All,

I’m new to PSC-Support, I live in

South Africa, after numerous tests over a period of about 8 years I have

finally been diagnosed with UC (colonoscopy) and PSC (liver biopsy) as well as INSULIN

RESISTANCE, not Diabetes Type 2, but apparently potentially near it.

My hepatogastro-enterologist warned me

that I will soon need a liver transplant and should start preparing myself for

it.

I adjusted my diet for Diabetes (predominantly

low GI) and simultaneously for UC and try to eat “liver-friendly”

stuff -- :-)) Makes for complex eating…

I also started with a series of

alternative modalities (Reiki, Psycho-Neuro-Immunology, Meditation, Visualization,

Affirmations… etc.) and have diligently doing these exercises.

I have joined a gym but was !again!

hospitalized (9 Dec 2005) shortly after doing so and haven’t started

doing physical exercises again.

I am apparently in the 5th and final stage

of PSC.

I use Ursodeoxycholic acid 600mg/day with

Rifampicin 900mg/day.

Since following this regime (since Sep

2005) my liver markers has drastically improved, to the point that I now only

have to see the dr. every 3 months as opposed to every month to date. AND even

though I was scheduled for an initial appointment with the Transplant Clinic in

January 2006, the dr. have now indefinitely postponed that.

I have lots of questions, but will blast

you with it over time rather than all at once.

My first one is: What exactly is a PSC

attack?

I’ve had, what I could only express

in words as abdominal-pain-attacks, focused over the solar-plexus but tender

across my entire abdomen, accompanied by intense

bloatedness.

So much so that I have been hospitalized

between 7 and 9 times in 7 months. It turned out I had a cyclical liver

infection – almost every month until early December, and has now had some

peace from that for the last two-and-a-half months. Does this sound like

what you refer to as a PSC attack?

Thanks,

-SJ
