Guest guest
Jennie: I have been hypoglycemic for several years now. I have to watch my diet very closely. I have to eat something about every 3 hours. I eat crackers on my first break at work and then I eat my lunch approximately 2-1/2 to three hours later and then I eat some more crackers on my break in the afternoon. I eat very little sugar. I try to eat things only with 1-2 grams of sugar in it. I watch to see what I eat and try my best to stay away from sugar. Guest guest
I am hypoglycemic. I have to make sure to cut back on carbs and have little to no sugar. I feel best when I'm on some type of Atkins type diet, but rarely can maintain it for any length of time. I take the following supplements to help keep my blood sugar on an even keel: Chromium picolinate - 200mg - 500mg two or 3 times a day. Alpha Lipoic Acid 300mg - 600mg two or three times a day. CLA 1000mg - 2000mg two or three times a day. AVOID CAFFIENE There are other suppliments that are supposed to help keep blood sugar in check, but I find they make my blood sugar too low. I think they are meant for diabetics. (a couple are banaba, cinnamon capsules - don't work for me). Usually my hormones are wild when my hypoglycemia becomes really terrible to deal with. I take DHEA and a progesterone cream or progesterone oral drops to help during those times. As an aside, I also take SAM-E 400mg once or twice a day, Guifenesin 400mg 2-3 times a day, generic Claritin once a day, and lots of Tylenol - up to the safe amount - one can gobble within a 24 hour period, which doesn't phase much when it's really bad. Keep something to eat with you ALL THE TIME. You will have to eat several small meals a day. Somedays you will have to graze - or eat bites here and there all day long. Jerky keeps well although it's not my first choice in something to eat. Putting sugar in orange juice will get you out of a crisis, but will allow your blood sugar to plummet again in a very short time. You need something more substantial, and fast. At the office I keep some of those prepackaged " bowls " of beef and chicken stew that can be microwaved. In a pinch you could keep one in your bag and eat it without microwaving. I guess my point is that you have to learn the signs and head them off EARLY. If I don't, recovering from an episode will screw up the rest of my day with jitters and brain fog and tiredness becomes impossible. I might as well (and often do) go to bed because I can no longer function, or stay awake. Hoping you find the best techniques for YOU to get a handle on your hypoglycemia, in Louisiana > Jennie: I have been hypoglycemic for several years > now. I have to watch my diet very closely.
