Every time my son comes home with a runny nose or cough I get

violently ill. He get's better in 2 or 3 days and it always takes at

least a week for me to feel any better. Does anyone else get this? I

have one of these bugs right now and am going to the Dr. tomorrow. Just

wanted your ideas on this subject before I go tomorrow.

Fibro compromises our immunes systems,, so it is harded to stay well or get over

illnesses easily. Probably why I am still fighting this dang flu bug over a week

now.

Don't quote me, but since we are suffering from an auto-immune

disorder, any and all getms are going to affect us far worse than the

typical person who has an immune system that is NOT compromised.

I am the same way. I am almost a germaphobe now. If my kids sneeze, I'm

pulling out the thermometer to check them and not letting them kiss me

on the lips and making them wash their hands tops and bottoms a slew of

time.

So I would say yes, we DO tend to go to the extremes when it comes from

a cold. I had a tickle in my throat (no coughing) and it ended up being

bronchitis, which exacerbated my asthma and landed my butt in the

hospital for NINE days! Thankfully I'm home. Still weak, have a flare

going on in all the spots that were impacted by that lovely bed (NOT!)

but I know that I'll recover.

Good luck on your doctor's appt! I would suggest, although I'm not

sure how you can do it - is build your son's immune system too so he

doesn't come home with stuff!

1. While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as

to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some

treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain

health conditions or just dangerous in general.

2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be

afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation

better.

4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the

same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something

another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member

may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal

with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense

of humor.

5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let

us know so that we can do our best to offer our support.

Have a nice day everyone.

Having fibromyalgia doesn't necessarily mean that you are going to get

sick from everything or have it worse. I have had a mild case of

fibromyalgia all my life and 8 years ago it became full blown pain

24/7/365 and I still hardly ever get sick from the yearly

cold/flu/stomach viruses that go around every year.

Yes, I feel it takes me longer to get over a bug, although I wouldn't

describe it as " violently ill " . It's difficult for me to tell for sure if I

have a bug or not, because symptoms are so similar to the FM. I think I'm

fighting one now, because I seem more tired, achy and depressed along with

sinus symptoms. It's the pits, that's for sure.

For me, when my depression and anxiety was high (early years of fibro

and not knowing what was wrong with me) yes I got sick all the time.

But since I overcame that, my immune system is rockin'.

If you work out in some way, even if it's some floor stretches or walk

30 minutes a day, that boosts your immune system. And vitamins too. I

take vitamins every day.

Not necessarily. My immune system is pretty rocking. Every time hubby

has caught a bug, I either didn't get it at all or only caught a mild

version. But I exercise regularly and take vitamins to boost my immune

system. It works.

The weekend before Xmas, half of my family got the flu and they were over it

in less than two days...me, it took a week. Yes, I strongly believe that

the FM makes it harder for us to fight off infections. One time when I saw a

specialist, he said that I have an auto-immune disorder, so that would make me

more susceptible to things.

Love and gentle hugs,
