Guest guest
Hi Raegan! Welcome to the list...I'm fairly new here also, just a couple weeks or so. About biting. If she is actively nursing, she cannot bite because her tongue is pushed forward. She can (and will!) bite when she is playing around, usually at the end of a feeding (and usually during teething times - before a new tooth will erupt). Be careful not to scream out in pain, as this may cause a nursing strike (happened with DS#1). Different moms have different ways of dealing with this - as the responses you will get will tell. It helped with DS#1 (who got his first tooth at 3 1/2 months) to pull him off and say " No bite. Nurse " and then praise him when he latched on and nursed again. I also would pull him closer to my breast so he would latch on " deeper " . I usually gave him one more chance, and then ended that nursing session if he did it again. YES, you can continue! I nursed him until he was 19 months. Now DS#2 just turned 3 months and he got his first tooth before he was even 3 months. Good luck! Guest guest
Dear Jen- Welcome to the list! My name is (, yes that's right) and I'm a happily married SAHM to 3 kids. 7, 5, and Katelyn 21 mo. Our 2 girls were 4 and 3 weeks early. I never nursed my first, I nursed my 2nd until he was 10 mo, and I'm still nursing Katelyn. There's a lot of ladies here who can help you with the thrush and all, but I'm just glad you're here. Hope to hear from you soon! S.
Guest guest
Jen- Interestingly enough, I had only heard of my dd's name once before I named her , but after she was born I found out it was the most popular name that year. The same thing for my ds and my other dd; I guess I'm easily influenced by popular names!?.. S.

Guest guest
Jen, Welcome to the list. Kaija is a variation on the hebrew name and is supposed to be pronounced the same but we say it like it rhymes with asia. As for the Diflucan, stay on it for 10 days or you will be back where you started. It is also in my humble opinion that any weaning in a baby under a year is a nursing strike and biting is very common at that age and not considered a weaning sign. There are many tricks to solve biting problems and you may find you need them with this baby if you plan on weaning naturally. Many babies show great interest in the world around them at around 9 months and need to be coaxed to nurse, just as an older child will need to be reminded to use the toilet. Congratulations on your new baby and I hope this is the last of the thrush for you. Are you taking acidophilus to help balance out your system and get the yeast under control? Have you cut sugar and refined flour out of your diet? Ductal yeast often necessitates huge dietary changes to be fully conquered. If you need more dietary information let me know. Again welcome! We have a three year old son named (Ben) & a 4 week old girl named (Becca). I b/fed Ben until 8 months when he self weaned. I ignored the signs & continued to try to nurse him anyway. That is until the day he drew blood. I can handle some biting occasionally but, when blood is drawn I draw the line. I decided to listen to him. I am nursing Becca now. Initially she had a poor latch (she was three weeks early, but that has improved. We are currently battling Thrush. The Nystatin worked, but I stopped it to soon & it came back. It has invaded my milk ducts & this time I am on Diflucn. On the second day it already seams much better. I am also using Caldesene on her bottom. She is very gassy due to my overactive letdown, (read " fire hydrant " ) & overactive milk supply, (read " good candidate for wet nurse " ). Even with all the problems nursing I have enjoyed it, (remind me of this when I complain after the three hour nursing marathons). P.S. , Where did you get the name Kaija? Guest guest
Jen, Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and welcome to this list. I am new to this list as well. I have only been a member for about two weeks now. The ladies on this list seem to have some wonderful breastfeeding advice and are very supportive. My name is and our son, Seth, was born on August 25th, 1999. He is our first baby, and I am absolutely loving motherhood. We are still breastfeeding and have been since his birth. It has been going pretty well; however, I have had poor pumping quantity for about the last week which is driving me crazy. I work full time as an Accountant so I am pumping at work, and so far my son has only had bottles of EBM when we are apart. I am 29 years old also. I had a difficult time getting pregnant with our son; however, after we did I had a pretty easy pregnancy, labor and delivery. What kind of signs was Ben giving you to tell you that he was trying to self wean? Welcome and Congrats again! and Seth (8/25/99) > Hello > > From: tjbsmith@... > > Hi, I am new to the list. Guest guest
Pege--welcome to the best support group around. Am sorry you have RP, but soooo very glad you've found the group. I'm sure you've heard this all before, but the members of this group are the most caring group of individuals you could ever meet. A great source of information and encouragement. We learn by sharing our experiences with RP, good and bad. Lasting friendships are formed here and are one of the biggest bonus'! My name is Carol and I live in Minneapolis, MN. Was dx'd with RP two years ago and have been fighting the monster on many different levels. Last year had a bout with cancer in my left lung and lost a part of the lung. It is thought the cancer was a result of the combination of toxic drugs I was taking to control the RP, but the docs are not 100% sure on this (there's a surprise!). Am currently fighting with blood clots in my legs (taking Coumadin and off and on injections of Flavin). Also having considerable RP flares in the legs and feet (taking Imuran and Prednisone). It's a tough one right now, but have hopes that things will turn around soon. At any rate, welcome, and please feel free to ask any and all questions you may have. BTW, ceramics is a big part of my life right now--I thoroughly enjoy painting them and welcome any suggestions you may have for me in buying both ceramics and paints. Chat with you soon. Take care. Carol.
Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I am sorry it has been so long since I have written everyone. and I are busy getting our new house ready to move into to. As of this weekend our kitchen is set up and ready! I am thrilled for this. We hope to be moving in by May 1st. If I can stay healthy enough! *S* Secondly, as some of you know I finally gave in to an antideppressant. Not my finest hour I assure you! I have been fighting this to it's last breath! I have felt that I was strong enough to overcome things of this nature as I have always been a strong person. The Dr chose to put me on Prozac. I am not handling this so well. I feel defeated........I am not sure how I feel. I mainly have been avoiding everyone. It's hard to put into words. Before my car accident 2 years ago I was a very active on the go person. Now I am reduced to taking drugs.......I am sick all the time! I have the double whammy of this disease as I have many diseases rolled into one. For those who don't know I have auto immune disorders as well. If someone would have told me 2 years ago this would happen to me I would have laughed them off the face of the earth. I hope everyone is doing well and welcome to all the new people I have missed! I am usually more on top of things. God Bless, Becky

Guest guest
Becky, My dear sweet friend, I just want to say one thing... you are not defeated by taking the Prozac, you are a very strong person and if you just give it a little time you will see that it will just help you in little ways, since you are so strong it is going to make things just a little easier...I didn't think I need it either but I have found that it has helped me alot with little things I don't cry as easy and I think it is part of what gives me some energy...and those two things were things that bothered me alot...You are a great person and to me you are so strong you have been there for me in so many ways and just want to say thank you for that...I am so proud to call you friend... Love you
Guest guest
My Dear Friends, I was way behind in my e-mail but I am almost caught up now. The trouble we have to endure with this illness isto be so uncalled for.I just thought that I would share with you all what I had to go thru this week.I had a regular schelded appt. with my pain doc on Mon. We have HMO insurance and I have to have approval from my family doc every couple of months or the insurance doesn't pay and I end up with the bill.My pain docter has moved 3 times in the last 7month but this time he bought a building so he will stay put.On Fiday my family docters office called and said that the pain doc was no longer in the network and I would have to find a new pain doc.I have been seeing this docter for about 2 years now.I thought that I would call the pain doc and get it straight from him,I was so hurt and scared. As you all know how impotant it is to have someone to understand. When the receptionist answered the phone I asked her about the insurance she coped a attitude problem, she was very sarcastic when I tood her how important it was for me to find out about my insurance. She said just come on in and we will see later and if it is not covered I would have to be stuck with the bill.I then asked to speak to vicki{she is in charge of the insurance[ and she would not let me talk to her.She said that she also was busy.Well by this time I was getting very aggravated and she told me that she was gfoing to hang the phone up on me.I then told her that she better think twice before hanging the phone up on me.Finally I alsed to speak to the docter and she said that I could not. Finally I told her that I thought that she had better take the messages for Vicki and Doc and she did.She just kept running that trap of hers till I couldn't take it anymore and I just handed the phone over to my husband. He ended up calling insurance and getting things straight and thank God I can still see this Docter. He happens to be the only Pain specialist for 100 miles. That is unbeleivable.I decided not to tell the docter about the person up front but in time I guess she will get whats coming to her.I don't mean to give anyone a hard time but I am so tired of the treatment that we get because of this illness. I hope that everyone has at least a nice weekend.Later.Baskets of Hugs and Love B.
