Guest guest
From my experience and what I have read, hormones can play a BIG role in rosacea. I first experienced rosacea when I was in my 30's and taking Lupron (a medication that completely stops the production of estrogen) for 6 months for endometrosis. I am sure this is what triggered it. I had the worst hot flashes - I did not wear a coat all winter. I could not wait to get outside everyday so I could walk to the train station coatless in Chicago in the winter. That's how hot I was all the time. Nights were even worse. I sweated all night and my husband froze.I have read that rosacea frequently emerges during menopause as a result of the hormonal changes, especially for women who are not on any hormone replacement. I take Ortho Tricyclin which has been touted for it's ability to help acne. I have found that it helps my acne, particularly the pre-period cysts that I used to get and have not found it to make my rosacea either better or worse. I do get the fluid filled bumps occasionally that you described. I figured that it was just part of the rosacea. If you are on a cyclic pill where the hormone dose varies throughout the month, that could explain your condition worsening and then improving. Some bcp's have a greater amount of progesterone (or another type of " male " hormone) and some have a greater amount of estrogen ( " female " ) hormone. Each has different side effects. The exact chemicals that each pill uses can vary too and some people find that they can take one kind well and not another. I think you're on the right track and may want to do some more investigating regarding the pill that you're on. Does anyone know what those fluid filled bumps are? ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: RE: seeking hormone opinion Author: sentto-1115099-4245-964551058-ssciara=email.usps.govreturns (DOT) onelist.com at INTERNET Date: 7/25/00 3:01 PM I'm a 27 yo female. I was diagnosed with rosacea about 10 months ago. I had just stopped taking birth control pills about 1 month before my first rosacea outbreak. I had the rosacea pretty much under control and then about two months ago I started birth control again. I have watched my skin change through the month - mostly I'm noticing that I've been breaking out in several types of acne - small fluid filled bumps, red, slightly itchy splotches and flesh colored bumps. They seem to clear around the time of my period and about a week after. My questions are ... has anyone had experience with " the pill " and rosacea, i.e., will this problem settle down after a few months as my hormones regulate or am I on the wrong pill or should I not be on the pill at all? From what I can tell, hormones seem to be the main aggravating factor to my acne component. I use Noritate every night and Neutrogena glycerin/acne soap. Any input would be appreciated. _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- Please read the list highlights thoroughly before posting to the whole group. Makes you wonder. Darlene
