Great topic!

Maybe because I'm still getting used to being able to have anything I want, when I'm hungry I want to fill up with something solid and dense (lasagna, eggs, oatmeal, etc). Haven't yet figured out what to do with salads and fruit - they confuse my senses. They make me feel almost instantly full but then I'm hungry again in 15 minutes. So I seem to want a salad only when I know I have a long time to linger over a meal (which I usually hate doing) like when I'm out to dinner. My usual meals are between appointments and may be squeezed into a 12 minute slot - which is actually enough to eat a small bit of lasagna slowly and mindfully.

Anyone else find that with salads and fruits it's harder to gage fullness?

Used a chart? What foods help you to feel more full and what makes you more hungry? What social cues affect the level of food you eat and your fullness ratio? Thanks in advance for participating!------------------------------------

Reading your explanation, I'm wondering if eating fruits and salads

are actually making it easier to gauge your fullness? You

feel full, because you are, maybe from a previous meal.

Salads will not last as long as complex carbohydrates, so it's

perfectly OK to feel hungry again a short while later. Mixing salads

with other foods, I find, makes for a fulfilling and comforting

meal, avoiding stuffing myself while eating (and enjoying) a healthy

meal.

April - Thanks for posting this. I have felt the same way but never consciously identified why I don't enjoy eating salads that much any more. A great example of that for me, is there is a restaurant near my office and my favorite thing to get was their barbecue ranch chicken salad. Since I don't go there very often (maybe once in a month or two), I always got that salad. It is a filling salad and very tasty. However, for the last year or so, every time I've gone there, I've gotten something else. As much as I enjoy the salad, it just doesn't seem to be what I want when I go there lately. Thanks for helping me understand this.

hi april,

salads & fruit were not filling me up for very long until I put all sorts of

goodies on them - goat cheese, cranberries, almonds, avocado, sundried tomatoes

(yes, I often use ALL of these at once) & I don't forget the homemade croutons,

either. Now THAT is a meal.lol.

I LOVE salads IF they have lots of stuff on them, especially some sort of protein. they fill me up quickly and keep me full for a long time. but a salad of just veggies, even if i enjoy it, fills me up for about 10 minutes!

best,abby
