It is listed as Activella in Drake and Drake (2002), so I would suspect

Activelle was a misspelling. HTH.

Activelle or Activella?

My docs always pronounce it Activella, but QLDB shows it as Activelle.

Neither PDR, Drake & Drake, or NPPR even list it (at least not the versions

I have), and when I look online, I find it spelled both ways. I have been

going by QLDB and spelling it with an e on the end, but now one of the docs

is even spelling it out for me with the a, so I guess I'll be switching over

until I sort it out. Is this one of those situations in which the

pharmaceutical company lost its patent and changed the spelling from one to

the other in order to re-register it?

Lynn, RxList returns both, making it appear that there are two different

drugs--although the composition appears identical. The only difference

that I can see is that Activella is specified for the prevention of

osteoporosis. Also, RxList has a patient information insert for Activella

but not for Activelle. PrescribingReference.com returns only Activella.

You may want to keep looking for information. Do you think this name

change has anything to do with the estrogen scare last summer?

My son is a rep for this company, it is definitely Activella. I have the

pretty promotional poster right here on my wall.

Here's the skinny: I found this information at

http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/drugs/dru615.html, the web site of

CenterWatch for clinical trials of drugs. It was taken from a much longer

article.

" Activella has already been approved in Europe for the prevention of

postmenopausal osteoporosis and has been marketed there under the name

Activelle or Kliovance. Pharmacia & Upjohn, under terms of an agreement

with Novo Nordisk, will be marketing the new HRT in the U.S. "

Evidently, Activelle is the name used in Europe; Activella is the name used

in the U.S.

Thank you everyone for looking into this for me. I will spell it with an e

from now on, and put it in my auto correct just in case. I am hearing about

the WHI study so often that I created an auto correct for that as well.

whistudy' now equals " The WHI study showing increased risk of breast

cancer, heart attack, strokes, blood clots, and decreased risk of colon

cancer and hip fractures is reviewed. " (without the quotation marks)

Followed by the patient's decision on whether to continue her hormone

replacement therapy or wean herself off, usually the latter, followed by a

recommendation to begin DEXA scans.
