I vote for yes.

It means, the patient has hypertension when he is in the doctor's

office because of some fear. (Maybe seeing the doc!)

It certainly is. Usually it refers to someone whose BP is higher in the

doctor's office than at home. :) I don't think it's capitalized though, I

think it's white coat syndrome. HTH.

It's also sometimes referred to as " white-coat hypertension. "

Jan ~ you are correct about white coat syndrome not being capitalized,

according the Medical Phrase Index. That is where I found it listed in case

Tani wants documentation to back it up. Hope this helps her too.

Thanks to everyone! Geez, I never thought to look in the MPI. I bought it a few

months ago but rarely find anything I am looking for in it so I forget to use

it. Guess I'd better start, huh? :)
