Chantelle,

The sign you are looking at is really for " refuse " . You are right, it isn't

the correct sign to use.

I sing this all the time (I sign the words in caps) NOW I KNOW MY A-B-C NEXT

TIME (for won't you - just point to everyone signing with you or, you could

use the sign for WILL because the meaning is " please sing with me again " )

SING WITH ME.

Sign language question (American Sign Language)

Hi guys. I have a quick question regarding the sign Won't. Basicaly

according to the asl book its thumb finger going up and pointing to

our back. However i thought it was a sidewase moving w moving from

left to right across our mouth. Im confused. Also the sign for wont

dosnt work for my song.

What do others do when singing the A B C Song in sign language?

I mean the one that goes now i know my abc, next time wont you sing

with me.

I got all the other signs down but i just dont think " won't " fits.

wouldnt it be giving the deaf child the wrong message? ie. dont sing

with me next time. See when you sing it out loud you can tell that

its all happy and fluff, but a deaf person cant tell that. Maby im

over thinking this whole thing. Should i sign " next time will you

sing with me " . Any ideas???

Chantelle,

you are right about using the sign " won't " and giving the wrong message. I would

change it to,

" Next time please sing with me " or " next time join me " .

The American sign for " won't " is your right hand (if you are right handed) in

the " A " position, but with thumb pointing up, and then a brisk movement back

toward your shoulder.

Why don't you change it to " next time will you sing

with me " .

Chantelle, I sign and sing this song frequently with the little boy I work with.

I use the sign that Kennedy's first teacher for the deaf showed me (and she's

married to a deaf man so I'm trusting her!!!)... we use " next time WILL you sing

with me " ... so we use " will " instead of " won't " - it still works with the

context of what you are asking in the song.
