Guest guest
Hi Dr. Sy-- I'm the one who had the bad flare last week after my second photoderm treatment. Dr. Bitter had me restart minocycline, which he wants me to continue taking at least thru my last photoderm treatment. My skin has calmed down remarkably in the last week--only a few leftover bumps and blemishes. I have samples of your vita-oil, non-chemical sunscreen, and optimal light sunscreen. I haven't tried them yet, and I'm wondering when is a safe time to do that? I took your advice and didn't start any other new products during that flare (that's what got me there in the first place!). I'd really like to be able to use at least the oil after my subsequent photoderm sessions (the next one's scheduled for Dec. 12th). So when can I try these products and how should I ease into using them? Thanks for the advice and support. Hope you had a wonderful holiday! __________________________________________________

Guest guest
, When your flare has been satisfactorily controlled and you have recovered from the photoderm, then it is the right time to try the Vita-Oil. You need to give it one week of continued use, in order to see if you really can use it and will not react to it. If the result is good, then it is safe to say that you will be able to use it right after your photoderm. Remember, just because Vita-Oil is my product doesn't mean that you will not react to it. I also suggest that you let Dr, Bitter know that you are going to use the Vita-Oil during your post-photoderm recovery period. He is ultimately responsible for your care and it is not only courteous but to your benefit to keep him informed and give him the opportunity to participate and approve of what you are doing. Re your trying our Optimal Light Sunscreen Lotion: My advice is don't. You seem to have super sensitive skin and lots of allergies and chemical intolerance. You will probably react to the sunscreen in this product. The Optimal Light is very good for those with oily acne prone skin who have early stage rosacea and no product intolerance or allergies. You are best to wait for the zinc oxide cream as your sunscreen. Or, if you cannot wait, it is okay to try the sample of our Non-chemical sunscreen SPF 16 which is a pure physical sunscreen using titanium dioxide as the active ingredient. Guest guest
Hi Regina, Sorry that we might have goofed. Sometimes, we do get computer problems and that might have been the case with your order. However, most times, it is human error. We will do some research on your order and let you know what happened. Would you also let us know if your credit card has been charged? Let me assure you that our site is secure. Re your ordering samples of ALL our products: I would like to take this opportunity to make a point. It is not a good idea. The purpose of sampling is to allow customers to discriminate and try suitable products without much investment. It is also targeted to those with skin sensitivity problems. For this group, I suggest that you inquire about which products are most suitable, then only order samples of those products. This way, you avoid getting into the wrong products or reactions. Unfortunately, finding the right products for a certain group, is constantly a learning process for me (in spite of 25 years in dermatology). Some of the previous product suggestions I made, have been posted on diff sites on the net and there is no way for me to retrieve them. Therefore, it is a good idea to ask for the latest developments so that you can benefit for my newly gained insights. Our website is under new construction and hopefully when it's ready, we will have all the new developments as one of our features. Sorry for all the inconvenience. Guest guest
Dr Sy-- My main concern is using a sunscreen. I do a lot of outdoor activities and live in the Bay Area where the sun is stronger anyway. I've been using glycerin and water to moisturize and it works satisfactorily, I suppose. I'm interested in the vita-oil b/c I remember comments about how the oils are useful in helping to create a barrier b/n the skin and the other products used, like sunscreens and make-ups. I'd like to be able to use higher SPF sunscreens in the summertime for hiking and biking and those sorts of things. Would the less bothersome physical sunscreens (like the one you're currently formulating) be sufficient to protect my skin during intense outdoor exposure? I thought the SPF wasn't very high in those products. My skin has cleared remarkably from that flare--probably due in large part to the minocycline. It's strange--in terms of blemishes (except for last week!)and flushing, my rosacea is mild. My biggest obstacle seems to be atopic sensitivity. Thanks for your advice! --- Sy MD wrote: > , > When your flare has been satisfactorily controlled > and you have recovered > from the photoderm, then it is the right time to try > the Vita-Oil. Guest guest
, ceans who also have atopic sensitivities are often allergic to (causing atopic eczema) & easily irritated by certain ingredients. ceans with no allergies are often easily irritated by certain ingredients (causing irritant dermatitis). Barrier creams will not protect the first group but will protect the second group, allowing them to be able to use certain products such as sunscreens etc. if you are allergic to an ingredient, you will react no matter how small an amount of that ingredient touches your skin. No existing barrier cream will protect you. Therefore, if you are indeed allergic to chemical sunscreen ingredients, you should avoid using them. Your only option is the physical sunscreens containing titanium dioxide or/ & zinc oxide. These physical sunscreens will give you broad spectrum UVA & UVB protection. The zinc oxide cream I am developing has SPF of 20. This is the best we can do in order to give it an elegant esthetic feel. Atopic individuals who want more protection should wear a wide brimmed hat as well. Speaking of SPF, the FDA 's latest monograph requires all sunscreen manufacturers to limit the SPF on their labels up to a maximum level of 30. This is effective as of May, 2001. The FDA also prohibits the use of avobenzone (such as Parsol 1789, a UVA sunscreen) and physical sunscreen such as titanium dioxide in the same formulation. I mentioned this info since someone posted that an ideal sunscreen should have avobenzone as well as titanium dioxide - there is no such product in existence here in the U.S., as far as I know.
