Guest guest
Q: What's the difference between a " chemical sunscreen " and a " physical sunblock " ? A: There are currently two types of UV protection on the market: chemical sunscreens and physical sunblocks. Both can protect against UVA (Aging) and UVB (Burning) rays, but do so differently: sunscreens containing chemical ingredients absorb UV rays, while those containing ingredients such as Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide block out UV rays physically by deflecting the rays away from the skin. The benefits of physical sunblocks are that they are effective immediately following application (as opposed to waiting 15-30 minutes with chemical sunscreens), and are ideal for individuals with sensitive skin or for people who may react to chemical sunscreens. Guest guest
It is my understanding that not only do chemical and physical sunscreens protect differently, but physical sunscreens (those containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) and one type of chemical (avobenzone AKA Parsol 1789 or so) provide superior protection against UVA. This point is strongly emphasized by a Begoun in her books and website. If you'd like more info her website is www.cosmeticscop.com and she discusses this issue in " Skin " section. Margaret C.
