Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'm glad to have found this list. I've been reading the archives, trying to catch up, & see that there is lots of valuable information & discussion here. I am 25 years old, mama to (), born on 8-22-98 at home. She is almost 10 months old and still almost exclusively breastfed. Just cut her first tooth last night! & yow, I am feeling it. My amazing, loving midwife, supportive husband, and personal determination are the reasons I was able to breastfeed. We had a rough couple of days there in the beginning -- wasn't getting enough of the breast in her mouth -- and I was terribly sore. I would cry every time I latched her on. The day before my milk came in was the worst -- was ravenous and I was most sore. My midwife & her student, now her partner, were right there, available to me 24hours a day. She told me if I needed her she'd come over at 3 am to help us with a night feeding!! I cannot say enough good things about direct-entry midwifery and home birth. Especially after reading some of the posts on how women were treated by hospital staff! Unbelievable! About nursing in public -- in the beginning it was tough. I am large-breasted also and had similar major, non-discreet latching-on procedures. In my experience, the older they get, the easier it gets (maybe not once she's 3,but...) becuase you are more comfortable with the process. Now I do it anywhere. Though I noticed I cleared out my whole side of the pattern counter in the fabric store the other day -- oh well! Nursing shirts help a bit, too. I sympathize with everyone who is working & pumping. I was working 6 hours a day, 4 days a week for a while (went back when was 5 1/2 months). I just could not do it. I was miserable. I had a very hard time letting down to the pump. If I had known about this list, I am sure I would have had more support & suggestions. I hated pumping, though, and hated my job so it's probably all for the best. We made some major life changes to make it work on just my husband's income, but they are all worth it. I am starting a work-at-home business making polartec diaper covers to bring in some extra money, too. Well, thanks for listening -- this intro became longer than I intended! _________________________________________________________
