Guest guest
About the progression? Unless this could be a thyroid problem, then yes I think fm can and does progress, here's something Ive been wondering about and hoping any of ya's can add your two cents...... Lately I have noticed and as far back as march of last year many new and worsening aches/pains, muscles and joint wise that I considered new since I knew what types of pain in various spots that I am use too. well what im getting at is, I've always kind of wondered about my thyroid, the test they do for that always come back normal, but some time ago my sister sent me an article on Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is a from of hypothyroidism. Many of the symptoms of this thyroid disorder or any hypo disorder are the same as fm-- fatigue, lethargy, insomnia, weight gain (tough time losing to) muscle joint aches and pains, difficulty in concentrating, forgetfulness, the article said that a standard thyroid test does not detect this, a special antibody test has to be done on the thyroid to diagnose. Im just wondering if the fm actually is a thyroid problem. My concentration and memory are progressively worse, I am very concerned about this. What if I have this and the doctors are not finding it because they keep running the same standard tests on my thyroid. Should I force the doctors to test me for this? any suggestions....... Please forgive my lack of diplomacy today as I am in way too much pain for one person and two cats to carry. Well from what I have read here and my own experience, it progresses. Sometimes when they say it is not progressive they mean " it won't kill you " . However, in most cases you will find here, it gets worse with the years. I know it did with me. However, I am not going to say that NO ONE gets better and it stays at the same level with EVERYONE.... just what I believe from my experience and what I have read from others. love and hugs, Debra V. <ldyivywillow@ <mailto:ldyivywillow%40yahoo.com> yahoo.com> wrote: Hi, From what I have read about the disease is that it is supposed to be a nonprogressive disease. I have only had it a few years, and have not gotten worse. My doctor (he is one of the good fibro docs) says it's not supposed to get worse, but as with age your body gets worse and so you will have to deal with fibro a different way then you might had to when you were younger. You might want to get some more opinions on it. However, I don't think a lot of studies have been done on the progression on it. Wanted to give you the little input I had hope it helps. Guest guest
Claudette, I have hashimoto thyroiditis - which is my body attacking my thyroid and slowing killing it. There are tests that can and should be run, but most doctors are not trained to do them. They do the TSH and ususally use the range of .3-5.5 - which is way too wide of a range. I would suggest that you get the TSH, FREE T3, FREE T4, anti-TPO and TgAB, which are the two that will determine if you have antibodies. Also, go to the following website and read: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com feel free to e-mail me off group and I will answer any questions you may have. The thyroid groups I belong to feel that a lot, but NOT all of the cases of FM/FIBRO are undiagnosed thyroid problems. I feel that from my own struggles with this disease (hashi's) that a lot more people (mostly women) do have thyroid problems, but the doctors are too ignorant to figure it out. Good luck. Feel free to contact me. Christi Randall www.singingwomenoftexas.com Re: Re: Progression? Well from what I have read here and my own experience, it progresses.
