Guest guest
Hi Naomi-- You are not alone! My biggest problems with this condition are inflammation and irritation, and my skin is extremely sensitive as well. The thing that really knocked back the inflammation for me was minocycline. Mino has a pretty potent anti-inflammatory component--it's even been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. I hate the idea of being on an oral antibiotic for an extended period of time, but I had to do it, at least at first. With the inflammation at bay, everything else seems to fall in line--the bumps go down significantly and my skin doesn't burn and hurt so much. However, the antibiotic hasn't done it all--I've had three photoderm treatments so far, and it's resolved a lot of the flushing (which contributes to the inflammation and irritation) and the redness. I have definitely been even more sensitive since starting the photoderm, but I've been able to get around that by using only glycerin and water to moisturize (that's also soothing) and not using my usual powder makeup. Going bare right now! But I'm sure that will resolve after my photoderm treatments are thru. I haven't been able to use topicals, but I've also never tried this zinc/dimethicone/noritate compound I've read about on this board. That might help you. It should help manage inflammation and general irritation. Zinc oxide itself seems to help a lot of people with irritated skin, and also helps to control some of the bumps. I've also been taking oral MSM, a sulfur supplement that's supposed to help the skin and has some natural anti-inflammatory effects. I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable right now. I know how frustrating that feeling is. Hang in there--as you will discover from participating in this group, there are quite a few alternatives out there for managing this. Hopefully, we can help you figure out what works for you. Take care! --- naomi smith wrote: > > Hi all > > My skin has recently become unbearable. > If I kept cool and unstressed (which is a task in > itself) I was able to > keep my skin under control. > Recently my skin has become progressively worse. Guest guest
Hi Naomi, Do you think any of this could be triggered by food or some other unknown trigger? If I eat the wrong thing, I get bumps, redness, pain and itchiness. No medication can bring it down for me until I stop eating the offending food. That's the only relief for me. I hope this bad patch ends soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Guest guest
Hi, Is seems having cea is similar to a roller coaster ride....sounds like you are in a valley....hang in there. I went for a facial recently and the facial technician was very knowledgeable about cea. In fact she diagnosed me even before I told her I had it (I'm 35 and have a mild cas for now). Anyway, she sold me some topical Vitamin K cream under the name of " advanced rescue " and told me it would diminish the appearance of the blood vessels showing thru on my cheeks (and it did). I also notices that my skin looked better...overall...after using it for about 4-6 weeks. It was soothing and easily worn under makeup. You may want to run this " treatment " by your dermatologist to see what he/she thinks. I was impressed by how much this facial technician knew about cea...she had been doing facials for 20 years and really knew her stuff. Guest guest
Where did you buy the Vitamin K cream? I'd like to try that. I have been putting Vitamin E cream on my face morning and night, taking Evening Primrose Oil at the same time and have been taking Vitamin E once a day. This is only the first week and the dryness at the corners of my nose and on my cheeks is going away. I also put the Metrogel on my face 2x a day, as prescribed. So far so good! Guest guest
Sounds like you and I are on the same type of treatment plan...I am on Metrogel 2x per day and the generic form of tetracycline at 1000mg per day + my vitamins minus the niacin. I will find out where you can buy this cream. I got it from my facial technician in Florida and I'm not sure where she gets it. I have never seen it in the stores. What are the symptoms of your cea? Do you know your triggers? Kate
Guest guest
I noticed in my 20's that I had a blotchy face and used foundation faithfully. I started noticing the fine veins around my nose and on one cheek. I've always had dry skin on the sided of my nose but it was oily too, which confused me a bit. One day, we were looking through family photos and came across a high school picture of me. My daughter said I looked exactly the same (very flattering, as I'm 36 now), except my face is all red now. All the symptoms were there, my Mom and sister even have cea, it just took someone to point it out I guess. (I'm really not that slow! ha ha) I made an appointment after researching a bit and joining this group, which, I may say is very informative and helpful! I don't flare like everyone speaks about and I'm hoping, with treatment, I won't start. My sister would drink a glass of wine and her face would be purple and very hot. My derm said the metrogel should take care of the redness but he'd have to get rid of the veins a different way if I choose. We really didn't speak too much about that but I'll bring it up at my next appointment. If foundation covers the veins I probably won't have anything done unless I find out that they'll get worse if I do nothing. I believe the metrogel is starting to make a difference already, even though he said I shouldn't see any results for 5-6 weeks.
Guest guest
N Have you tried anything else yet, like any topicals? Guest guest
hey Hmmm. I picked up some vitamin K at GNC when I saw it advertised in a magazine. I believe I tried it for a few weeks and saw no results. Maybe I should give it another shot.
