Guest guest
Hi - I'm Joan, mother of a magnificent little miracle, Helen Ann, who is 6 1/2 mo & still breastfeeding... She was born at home....what can I say, I'm just in love with her. I decided to join this group in hopes of learning! We have not vaccinated our daughter, nor do we intend to, and that e-mail list (pro-informed-choice / anti-vaccine for the most part) made a lot of references to the incredible short and long term health benefits of nursing (...not to mention the closeness I feel looking down into those wonderful big blue eyes)! I have a very supportive husband. He agrees that we should do whatever is best for Helen, so even though the idea of nursing a toddler was/is kinda weird to him, he's adjusting! And he's a pretty good sport about me having the biggest breasts of my life and not really being in the mood to let him enjoy them!!!!!! I hope to learn all I can...and share what little I know! Love, and God Bless, Joan

Guest guest
Hello Everyone. My name is Christy, and I am 31. My husband and I have one child, Chandler (18 months), and we are expecting baby #2 Jan. 8, 2000! We are so excited. I breastfed Chandler until he was 14 months old. I would have continued to breastfeed, but I was having many problems at the time. Well, that is about it for now. I will look forward to hearing from you soon. I had many breastfeeding questions with Chandler, and I am sure I will have many more with the new baby. Christy. --- breastfeeding-owneronelist wrote: > Hello, > > Welcome to the list. Guest guest
Hi everyone. My name is Crystal and my hubby and I just had our first baby Hannah. She is five weeks old today. Thankfully, since day one she has been a champ at breastfeeding. At her 1 month appt she had gained almost 3lbs since she left the hospital! Well, everthing has been going great till about a week ago. We will be in the middle of a feeding and all of a sudden she will yank herself away from me and start screaming, at the same time trying to find my breast again. She'll get almost back on and them start all over again. She doesn't do this with every feeding, but it very hard not knowing why she's doing this. She' s obviously getting enough milk but what could be causing her to go all frantic on me? She's so hard to calm down once this starts Another question... Does anyone else have a problem with shooting milk everywhere??? It is very frusterating as I am afraid to breastfeed away from home because it is very messy. Our first experience was in the church nursery and as she pulled herself off of me I has 3 streams of milk shooting everywhere. She was mad at me becasue she wanted to eat, but I couldn't get it back in her mouth because I was shoooting her in the face!!!! Then I was soaked, she was soaked and I was very discouraged. Is this gonna last forever? I feel like I can feed an Army at times? Oh I lied! One more question! I had been pumping milk at times to save for when I need it. Well I had pumped while she was feeding at one side, becasue she hardly ever finishes both sides. My question is... What if I pump and then my baby is hungry? I just took it all out, so what is left for her. I don't want to starve her. I found I have a hard time pumping unless she is feeding at the same time. But, I know that some ladies pmp in between feedings. But, like I said...what if baby gets hungry right after I pump??? I am sooo confused I look forward to getting to know all you! I recognize some names from the BTL cloth diapering list Love, Crystal and Hannah 5/26/99 http://community.webtv.net/crystaldaso/HannahMariehas
Guest guest
Crystal, Welcome. Your breasts are never empty so don't worry about that. It is a supply and demand situation. The more the demand the bigger the supply. If you have just pumped there will still be milk and it will be the richer hindmilk so she won't need as much. You won't starve her. It actually sounds like her problem is from over active let-down. Anybody have those websites about it? She sounds like she is getting drown (so to speak) and is trying to catch her breath but doesn't want to stop nursing. You could try pumping a little first to get the let down to come to the pump and then nurse her. I know others here have this problem and can help more. I struggle more with a lack of supply so this isn't my realm. Btw I am Wendi sahm to Kaija 7yo(homeschools) and Zaid 20 months (nursing) and am married and live in No. Ca. Again welcome. Both nursed very well. I really don't understand why I didn't go back to it the last time. Maybe because I was really young when I had him. I was only 21, and I think not ready for parenthood. Even though I'm 24 now, I feel that I have matured 20 years, and I'm looking at parenthood, especially being the mom of 2, in a different light. I welcome the challenge. And I will continue to breastfeed for as long as Paige will allow me. Sorry, I'm feeling a little like Scarlet O'Hara when she went back to Tara. Its my fave movie, and she's my hero. Guest guest
< My question is... What if I pump and then my baby is hungry? >> and Amy replied, " he good thing about breastmilk is you always make more so don't worry about pumping. " My own experience is that this is definitely true! I used to get up and pump every morning at 4 am - one morning, I pumped something like 11 ounces and woke up about 10 minutes later. He was able to induce a letdown immediately and happily went back to sleep with his tummy satisfied. Other times it's taken a little longer to let down (but still pretty quick), but it does happen and your baby will be able to eat. Moreover, your baby will be getting less foremilk and will probably be content with maybe a little less. Don't know if that's true or not, but that's the only thing that made any sense to me, since it didn't seem that he swallowed quite as much. Just my experience, FWIW. -, mom to who weighs 20 lbs at 5 months, all on mommy's milk!! * * * * * * * * * * * Bullock mommy to , 1/25/99 http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/j/james_edward/

You would think that by #4 BF would be pretty routine but it has been completely different with all of them. Kari
