--- Take Action! Stem Cell Funding Decision Nearing

Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 02:26:20 -0700 (PDT)

From: " ReeveParalysisFoundation@... "

To: " Pam Bower "

Dear Pam,

Dear Friend:

Your urgent action is needed today! Very soon, President Bush could

decide whether or not to continue federal funding for research on stem

cells -- and he needs to hear from you.

Please take a few moments today to call the White House at (202)

456-1414.

Let the President know that he should allow the National Institutes of

Health to go forward with this exceptionally promising medical research.

The President's impending decision will affect the health of millions of

Americans. Not just those living with spinal cord injuries, but also

people suffering from devastating diseases such as Alzheimer's,

Parkinson's, cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, and victims of stroke.

" I believe that any reasonable person who is willing to listen to both

sides of the argument can be convinced that it is possible to be

pro-life and pro-stem cell research at the same time, " Reeve

said recently. " This issue affects the whole American family, and if we

think of ourselves as a family with 250 million members, then I think

compassion for our brothers and sisters, parents and children, will lead

us to the right conclusion. "

" Please do everything you can to lend your support and encourage your

representatives to help. They do respond to the weight of public

opinion. "

In our last email correspondence, we asked that you take action online

in support of stem cell research. If you have not yet taken this

action, or if you would like more information on the importance of

federal funding for stem cell research, please click below now:

And if you would like to support the Reeve Paralysis

Foundation's life-changing spinal cord injury research -- research that

in just the past few years has brought us closer than ever to a cure for

paralysis -- please click below to donate now:

Pam,

I posted a note on Friday that tomorrow (1 PM) there is a big rally at the

Capitol in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, I can not attend as Charlotte is

beat by the afternoon and tomorrow is not a day that I have a sitter.

There will be a Congressional Hearing before the Criminal Justice, Drug

Policy and Human Resources Subcommittee chaired by Representative Mark Souder

(R-IN) at 2 PM. Most of the witnesses will testify in opposition to

embryonic stem cell research. However, Dr. Goldstein, Chief Scientific

Officer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Parkinson's

Action Network (PAN) President Joan son are scheduled to testify in

favor of embryonic stem cell research. It is very important that we have as

many patients as possible at the hearing to show the public's support for

this research! As I said in an earlier post there is little handicapped

parking in that area.

Here are members of that committee - if you recognize any of them as your

Congressperson - let them know that you expect a FAIR hearing with both sides

represented
