Guest guest
Hi! I hope everyone is having a good evening. I don't write often, but I am a avid reader of all the e-mail. Over the years I have suffered from all of the above. At times I can't even swallow my food, or if I can start to swallow it always gets stuck and then my husband and son are both coming at me to help, one is pounding on my back and the other is trying to do the Heimlich manuever. I not sure what is worse my husband and son trying to help or the actual choking, lol. I could never wear a turtle neck that had any type of spandex in the neck for cuff. It would feel like someone was strangling me and my face would always turn red. I have no idea as to the reason why I can't stand anything tight, elastic, spandex, lycra, or even a watch around by wrist. The twitching or involuntary movement of my fingers, hands and legs started not long after my surgery for ACM 1. I'm not sure if this information is of any help, but at least you know you are not alone. I also have a quick question. Before I was diagnosed and operated on for ACM I was an avid horse rider. I did alot of eventing and show jumping. This is something I really miss, but I was advised not to push my luck by getting back on a horse and falling off and breaking my back or worse. Is there anyone of you who still ride with ACM? Thank you. kvitale01@... V. in Illinois ACM 1 Surgery, 1995
Guest guest
Hi! I developed choking and swallowing problems about one year after my surgery. It's not real bad, but I hate the feeling. I dont know how to deal with it yet. I feel like I'm going to choke! I too was very active before I fell and Chiari manifested itself in my life. I jogged 6 miles every other day. I was in the army and was very gymnastically inclined and now I can't walk a mile. Some Chiarians can. I have tried so many times and usually after 1 1/2 weeks all the symptoms become agravated until I cant even touch my legs without screaming. All my nerve endings feel like there on fire. My doc told me not to do it anymore even though he was the one who told me to try in the first place. I gained alot of weight which is unhealthy too and now I'm doing 25 minutes of exercise at home (floor exercises that don't strain the neck or back). So far, so good! Have a good day tomorrow!
